Re: Antenna limitations

I don't see why not.? If my little battery powered grid dip meter can find the resonance of an HF dipole, the VNA should be able to.

Thoughts? Experiments?

I will be putting one up in a few weeks and will try it out.

Just curious.

Re: Can you use other VNA apps with the NanoVNA?

Hmmm, maybe someone could write a Python wrapper with a table driven command set to interface 3rd party VNA apps to the NanoVNA?
?

Re: Can you use other VNA apps with the NanoVNA?

Expanding a bit on the long answer: There is a python interface.

I have not used it with the NanoVNA yet, but I note that it can use the
scikit-rf library which I have used a little. It is a very powerful library
and is quite easy to use.
This means it can be used with the Jupyter notebook application, which is
quite a nice system.
There is an example referenced in the docs here:

If you click on that link it will render the results. Installing Jupyter
notebook allows you to interactively change the code and see the results
live.

It won't suit everyone of course, but it is far easier than developing a
VNA app from scratch.

Short answer: No

Long answer:
The console interface of the nanoVNA was originally set up for debugging
the device as it was being designed and it is proprietary to the device.
That said, the software is open-source so if you can code and you know the
xxxxVNA's command structure (sub xxxx for mini, blue, etc) and the NanoVNA
processor has enough flash, well, then maybe something could be written to
possibly work.

The above is assuming you want to see results live. Otherwise, generate
Touchstone files from the NanoVNA_sharp app and see if they will import to
any other manufacturer's software.

Re: Manual

Be interesting to see a sealed VNA with no display which uses a phone app as the user interface via Bluetooth.

My 1st Nano (yes, I do now have two - thanks for the advice Larry) came
with 2-trace antenna analyser firmware. Text is clearer but the only
difference on the interface I have spotted is the last of the Format
options moving to a submenu.

Simplest to a "cal" on the range you want ...also can note the "traces" you want ..save to slot 1 thru 4 (your choice) ..turn on ..recall slot ...done ...except for larger font , but ...

An associated application can be found on Doug Smith's emcesd.com site:

Yes, it can work!

This fellow also compared it to a field fox costing thousands more.

Thx for the add
