Re: Manual
No, the nano comes with 3 firmware options. By default the factory set version is 4 tracks 900MHz. I want to change it to the antenna analyzer 2 track version for my friend. It has bigger fonts and a different interface.

Re: Has anyone compared the MiniVNA with the nanoVNA?
I have a home brew F4GOH vna which is similar to the minivna. I have an experiment to measure high Q toroids up to 230 at HF. Both instruments gave almost identical results.?Sent from my Samsung Galaxy smartphone.

Great! Then let us ALL start contributing to updating the nanoVNA WIKI's various sections. Vince - You're not stirring the pot ;-) As Clint stated: "...there needs to be a manual, to gather that information into a single, concise document that can be edited and contributed to as the device matures and develops." Well, that describes the NanoVNA Wiki. I have already created a number of entries as have a few others. In fact, I just added the DFU flashing instruction document link. Where did I get the info from - I searched the Internet and brought it together in one place. It's call research - you can learn a lot by sifting through various data sources. So - If you look through the 1000+ forum posts and see something of interest that has not been added to the Wiki, add it under the appropriate section as has already been done. This includes updating the WIKI, LINKS and FILES areas. There is also a MODS area - if you've seen my posts, I've been modifying my Gecko VNA quite a bit. Maybe some can create a HOUSING section in the Wiki and place the STL files, or links to them, there? (I just created the folder - let's upload some STL files!) Sky's the limit - start consolidating the info in one place. Someone mentioned earlier they wanted to create a table of hardware versions - that hasn't happened yet but essentially there are only 4 versions and various orders of quality in construction and parts used (from what I can see). I will post a photo of the cap I added to DSP reset line on my Gecko along with links to the shields, switches and other changes, to the MODs section. HOWEVER, I don't want to be the ONLY person doing this..... My $0.02 worth |

Hello again- I found further information on the IP5306 IC, which (as I believe Herman mentioned) appears to be virtually identical to IP5303 but with higher current capacity: The above link describes the functional states available via the IC5306's 'KEY' pin as follows: ----------------<snip>------------------ Key method The IP5306 recognizes long and short key operation, and pin 5 is floating when no key is needed. 1. The key duration is longer than 50ms, but less than 2s, which is a short press action. Short press will turn on the power indicator and boost output. 2. The duration of the button is longer than 2 seconds, which means long press action. Long press will turn on or off the lighting LED. 3. The keystrokes less than 50ms will not have any response. 4. Pressing the button for two consecutive times in 1s will turn off the boost output, battery display, and lighting LED. ----------------<end snip>------------------ When I manually connected a 10K resistor between pin 5 and ground for 1 second, apparently this put my IP5303 into the state induced by 1) above, enabling [battery] boost output. I believe my unit arrived here in the state induced by 4) above, with [battery] boost output switched off. Roughly 24 hours later, my ON/OFF switch is still functioning normally (the unit boots from both USB and battery power). I have no clue as to how long this 'normal battery function' state will persist, nor how battery current draw varies among the above states- I guess time will tell... 73, Joe F. KC8RKL |
Re: Manual
I wasn¡¯t looking to stir the pot or anything. It just seems that there is so much fragmented information on the device that it makes it difficult to figure out where to start, especially for someone who has never used a VNA.
As an aside there are also so many variants of the unit, versions of software, vendors to purchase from as well as the messages on this forum not really categorized, it can be daunting. I¡¯m going to work on a manual time permitting for myself and to share. It¡¯s a learning experience for me as well. Suggestions and contributions welcomed. I feel the device is a wonderful piece of kit that can be a great asset and teaching tool for all hams and tinkerers. 73, Vince |

Re: Place to buy
"Is there any one vendor thats the best place to buy? Hal/WB4AEG"
A recent poster to this forum also said: "As for price, AliExpress guarantees what you're buying or they refund." Beware of warranties from Asian sellers! If you complain to PayPal or your credit card company about a defective item, you will be told you have to return the item to get a refund and you are responsible for the return shipping. In nearly all cases those sellers include shipping in the sale price so they aren't responsible for return shipping costs. The minimum cost to ship a package from the US to China was about $23 the last time I checked so shipping eats up 1/3 to 1/2 of your refund for a nanovna. Also, tracking on shipments to China is iffy to say the least and sellers take advantage of that. After a bad experience with Bangood, where I lost $80+$23 for a defective tablet, I make all my Asian purchases on eBay because the seller is always required to pay return postage for defective items. In most cases the seller will tell you to keep the defective item but not before trying to negotiate a partial refund for their boat anchor. 73, George |

Folks,
ALL the information you require is already in the various parts of this forum. Please use the SEARCH function or look in the FILES and WIKI areas. There are also links to hugen's google drive area (link) that has ALL THE INFO you need to operate AND flash new firmware! Check the Wiki for links to documents on how to use a VNA. Cheers, Larry |
