Re: U.FL/MMC tools Re: [nanovna-users] RF Demo Kit for NanoVNA H4? #nanovna-h4

The additional sticker shock is (always) Sparkfun's shipping costs unless you spend 100 bucks with them. That alone keeps me from hardly ever ordering from them.

I do enough work with u.fl's that I decided I absolutely needed one of those tools, and the best price I found, including shipping (quality of tool TBD) was here:

With shipping to FL, just over 20 bucks...more than I ever expected for a tool like this, but definitely cheaper than most.

Re: New member question #nanovna

I have different nanoVNA types, and I find myself using the SAA-2N model most frequently. I got mine from R&L Electronics (USA vendor).
I also use my LibreVNA in my work, but it is in a different class of instrument (full two-port, 6GHz) which is not-self-contained, and only included for information.

Re: New member question #nanovna

Hello John,

I have a NanoVNA-F which has a 4.3" IPS screen. Very easy to read outside compared to the -H4.

The NanoVNA-F by Deepelec has a new replacement, the DeepVNA-101.
Basically the same hardware as the latest -F but has a rotary encoder instead of buttons or jogwheel. Much easier to use up a ladder or tower:-)
It also has a Real Time Clock which the -F does not have. This timestamps the saved files. The -H4 also has an RTC I believe.
The -H4 has an SD card slot, the -F uses dedicated onboard memory to store files.

Firmware updating is much easier on the -F than on the -H4.
Leon does not update his -F firmware as often as DiSlord does for the -H4, so if you want bleeding edge firmware, go with the -H4.

Both units can be connected to a PC using either the NanoVNA-App or NanoVNA-Saver software. Both are free. Read the wikis.

I think the -F may be slightly dearer than the -H, but you would normally only buy once, so the few extra dollars are neither here nor there at the end of the day.

BUT, make sure you buy from the manufacturers recommended sites, either from China or the States.
DO NOT chase the cheapest price, you will almost certainly regret it.

John,

The NanoVNA-V2plus4 and the NanoVNA-F both come in a metal enclosure which /might/ be a little more robust. The H4 while being in a plastic case is also well supported.

The SV4401A has a bigger 7-inch screen, but I sent mine back feeling it was overpriced and offered little over the 4-inch units - mine had a couple of other issues. It has N connectors but they are just connected internally to SMA connectors on the board, but perhaps this is a more robust arrangement? The software is behind the others and lacks facilities on the smaller units.

Can't compare battery life, sorry.

Re: New member question #nanovna

In my opinion the nanovna-H4 would suit your needs well. It is reasonably
inexpensive, covers your frequency range well, and supports the latest
firmware developments.

Re: Upgrade of older VNA

Hi Mike,
you can find more information on my website. In the beginning there were several developers, currently DiSlord who is still contributing. I recommend that you download the pdf marked with his name, it contains links where you can download the firmware. Since you are planning to do this for the first time, read on for what you need to do. Link:

In the upper left corner is the language selector, if it doesn't automatically switch to your language - you can select it here.

Howdy;
Got time to work with some of the toys I got in the past. I have an older NanoVNA I bought some time ago and decided to learn how to operate using a book on Amazon on VNA operation.
Learning lots, including some features missing like the battery icon that is supposed to be on the left side. In the section on upgrading the software, The book said if a button was missing on the screen that I had to jumper 2 points on the board (which I found) .
Question, which software should I use? When I power the VNA up it says "GEN111.TAOBAO.COM" on the screen. I am sure this is an old clone, so I am just learning before I get into the real machines I got from R&L.
Suggestions appreciated.
Mike

Mike,
Yes, in this. You can do it somewhere else, only when you start Wine, a window opens and it's there next time.

I cannot figure why an SD slot would be accommodated ALMOST from original design, be so useful, and not ever implemented.

Is this in ye olde archives?

I cannot see it as a Test Q&A, nor a great idea not implemented for lack of a coin to flip.

The NanoVNA has gone through quite a few revisions over the last few years.

Which Documentation folder did you put the .exe file in?

Was it /home/pi/Documents or Wine's virtual My Documents?

Re: Email send by groups.io are bounced

Yes, we have been having trouble with Spamcop and Spamhaus for some time now. The creator of groups.io has been working with both to get them to get us off the list of blocked servers, but this has not been straightforward and is still an ongoing effort.
