CQ Missing issues
Hello Group, For those of you wondering where your printed CQ magazine is, below is an answer I received from the publisher. I hope CQ magazine makes it through this tough time. It would be a big loss if they folded. This also sorta reflects what the ARRL is going through with their print editions. You can read some back issues of CQ at the link he provides. 73 Carl Juvrud KP2L ---------- Forwarded message --------- From: <w2vu@...> Date: Thu, Nov 30, 2023 at 6:13 PM Subject: Re: Missing issues To: Carl Juvrud <cjuvrud@...> Hi Carl, Unfortunately, we have not been able to publish print editions of the last several issues. We apologize for this and are doing all we can to get things moving again. PDF copies of the August and September issues may be downloaded from our website at www.cq-amateur-radio.com (links are at the bottom of the homepage). A PDF copy of October is attached. New SCHEART repeater at Caesars Head
The SCHEART VHF repeater located at Caesars Head has joined the statewide system of link-able sites. This repeater transmits on 145.130 MHz and receives on 144.530 MHz with a PL tone of 123.0 Hz. The ability to link this repeater as part of the statewide network enhances coverage in Northwestern part of the state and provides additional redundancy to the Greenville area. The node number is 36 This means link command is *36 You should update your list of SCHEART repeaters or download/print the SCHEART list at https://scheart.us/repeater-frequencies-pl-and-node/ -- Dave, WB5NHL Treasurer, NABRC

N2ZZ/R 145.350 repeater
To all, Please pass this around to any other lists or interested parties. I was told that the N2ZZ/R VHF repeater at Aiken Regional Medical Centers was totally off the air a few weeks ago. Previously, just Echolink was off the air while I was working with hospital IT to fix the repeater¡¯s Echolink computer. I found out that the hospital experienced a power surge which took out several electronics in the hospital, such as controlled doors, a few weeks ago. I went up to the repeater and found that the programming of the ARCOM controller was scrambled. I dug out the Windows XP computer that I used to program the controller back in 2006, found the last file, uploaded it to the controller, and all was well again. I also replaced the backup battery. In that time space, I contacted hospital IT, they met me up at the repeater to fix the Echolink computer, and now Echolink was back on the repeater. That repeater has been in almost continuous operation since 2006 without a hiccup. After surveying the situation, I realized that the controller was seriously out of date, and if failed completely, could not be directly replaced. I contacted ARCOM, asked them to upload the data that I have to a new controller. They sold me that new one, along with an RTC time clock that will keep the time. Still, as nothing is easy, all the audio levels of the new board would need to be calibrated. I met Joe N4ADI up at the repeater. We pulled out both the ARCOM RC-210 controller box and the Kenwood TKR-750 repeater. Joe has offered to replace the board, calibrate the audio levels and completely go through the repeater to evaluate sensitivity, power levels, etc. Hopefully, we can meet up next weekend and reinstall the repeater with the new controller. At that time, we will revisit the Echolink setup. I have not been able to produce enough gain on the old ARCOM board from the Echolink box to equalize the audio with the repeater audio. Hopefully, we can fix that as well. So, the N2ZZ/R 145.350 repeater will be off the air this week. Just an FYI to all! ¡®73 de Jim N2ZZ

November Meeting Topic - SWR Demystified 2
The next NABRC meeting is Mon, Nov 13 at Public Safety #2 in North Augusta. At the Sept meeting the it was requested that a club meeting address the topic of SWR (Standing Wave Ratio). This month's meeting addresses the request. We will have a short (10 min) professionally prepared video explaining SWR in clear visual terms. We will answer questions like: Where should I measure SWR What's this about excess loss Any tips on tuning an HF antenna If you own an antenna analyzer PLEASE BRING IT. We would like to demonstrate the variety of analyzers on the market. Finally, we will have DIY 50 ohm calibration loads you can build yourself .-- Dave, WB5NHL Treasurer, NABRC
