Trailer OTA antenna installed
This morning Dave Kjellquist and I installed?an "over the air" outside TV antenna on the comm trailer roof.? This is the antenna that NABRC bought for the trailer to replace Direct tv sat service. We managed to get it working in spite of a few self inflicted mis-steps. Big thanks to the NABRC club for buying the antenna, and to Dave for his expert help in installing it. Sunspots Hit a 21-year High
From
SUNSPOT COUNTS HIT A 21-YEAR HIGH:?The sun is partying like it's 2002. That's the last time sunspot counts were as high as they are now. The monthly average sunspot number for June 2023 was 163, according to the Royal Observatory of Belgium's?. This eclipses every month since Sept. 2002: ![]() Solar Cycle 25 wasn't expected to be this strong. When it began in Dec. 2019, forecasters believed it would be a weak cycle akin to its immediate predecessor Solar Cycle 24. If that forecast had panned out, Solar Cycle 25 would be one of the weakest solar cycles in a century. Instead, Solar Cycle 25 has shot past Solar Cycle 24 and may be on pace to rival some of the stronger cycles of the 20th century. The last time sunspot numbers were this high, the sun was on the verge of launching the??of 2003, which included the strongest X-ray solar flare ever recorded (), auroras as far south as Texas, and??it was ultimately detected by the Voyager spacecraft at the edge of the solar system. Re: Raise an Antenna to 50+ Feet
Charles Stribling
I need to build one of these at my small machine shop for the North Augusta Belvedere Radio Club. I personally would leave the tripod attached. Very nice idea. Thanks for sharing. On Jul 3, 2023 3:31 PM, "Rodney Tanner, WM4RT" <wm4rt.hamradio@...> wrote:

As with ALL visitors to Field Day they will be signing in and thus acknowledging our safety briefing. This is particularly?important for any visitors that will spending time at the site. -- Dave,? Radio In a Box - future of Dxpeditions
Check out this video providing a detailed description of Radio In a Box (RIB). Many DX locations have become unavailable because Government agencies are VERY protective of the fragile ecosystems and don't want hams traipsing around setting up camp for weeks. George Wallner, AA7JV has worked for 3+ years to engineer the RIB to minimize ecological impact as well as reducing Dxpedition cost, effort and improving results.
This looks like the future of Dxpeditions.? Great video well worth watching! -- Dave,? WB5NHL Treasurer,? NABRC |
Re: 20ft Telescoping Metal Pole
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýWell built. I use this pole as the center conductor for my Array
Solutions Shared Apex Loop (SAL-20) when I went from the original
design using 4 central wires to a common conductive pole (Mark
II). I use screws at the joints to make sure it makes good
electrical connections. Very easy to erect, even fully extended. On 6/20/2023 12:49 PM, KENT HUFFORD,
