Aiken Regional Hospital policy change makes Masks Optional for Club Meetings

Aike Regional Medical Center has recently announced a revision to Its mask policy.
Some key excerpts from the announcement are:??

As community COVID transmission levels are low-
Masks are not required by visitors in common areas including hallways, elevators or stairwells, the cafeteria, or conference areas.?
If you are in patient areas masks are still required
Drs and staff with patient contact are required to wear masks.
If transmission should increase to a higher designation, The hospital will reevaluate its mask policy

Good News
masks are no longer Required for NABRC meetings.
Of course, if you feel more comfortable wearing a mask you are more than welcome to do so.

So, If the mask policy was keeping you away from the meetings at Aiken Regional,
We hope to see you on Monday December 12 and future meetings.

As a matter of fact, the first time I saw this it was on our ARRL board reflector, as a great PR piece.? I know she was contacted and encouraged.

?

Perhaps one of the greatest ham radio quotes I ever heard was when a reporter asked a Field Day PIO how far ham radio can reach.? His reply was “On Earth?”

For Sale (For the price of a power supply and tuner you get)-

ICOM IC-720A with ICOM IC-PS15 Power Supply, and MFJ 949 DELUXE VERSA TUNER II

The?Icom IC-720A?is an all-solid state transceiver covering nine amateur HF bands. ?Radio transceiver supports AM, CW, and SSB band modes. Offering a different power output for each mode, the ham radio covers nine amateur HF bands, including the 1.8 to 2.0 MHz, 3.5to 4.1 MHz, 6.9 to 7.5 MHz, 9.9 to 10.5 MHz, 13.9 to 14.5 MHz, 17.9 to 18.5 MHz, 20.9 to 21.5 MHz, 24.5 to 25.1 MHz, and 28.0 to 30.0 MHz ham bands. In addition, the Icom IC-720a radio transceiver uses a quad conversion receiver with a general cover frequency range from 0.1 MHz to 30 MHz in 30 1-MHz segments.

The Icom IC-720a radio transceiver also comes with two variable frequency oscillators, letting you receive on one while transmitting on the other. In addition, the ham radio stores the frequency on one VFO when you switch to the other. This provides an easy way to switch from one frequency to another and then quickly return to the original frequency. You can also switch one VFO to match the other by way of the VFO equalizing switch. Once you find the frequency you want, lock it in with the dial lock button. The rear panel of the rig offers a variety of connection options, including an external speaker jack, antenna connector, memory backup power socket, and accessory socket. The external speaker jack allows you to connect an 8 ohms speaker to the IC-720, although the rig does come with a built-in speaker. The antenna connector comes in handy when you need to connect a 50 ohms antenna using a PL-259 connector. The accessory socket gives you access to various functions, such as frequency control, various outputs, and other helpful functions.

The IC-720A has a quad-conversion, general coverage receiver that tunes 100 kHz to 30 MHz. Power output is: SSB 10~100W, AM 10~40W, CW/RTTY 10~100W. This radio requires 13.5 VDC at 20 Amps.

Access door on top of 720A is not original.

The ICOM IC-PS15, 20A power supply connects directly to the 720A, and the 720A power switch turns on/off the power supply.

ICOM microphone, AC power cable, and DC connecting cable included.

Nov 2022 club presentation - Winlink – What is it and its use in ham radio

The Nov 2022 meeting presentation has been added to the club website. A pdf file of the presentation can be found for your viewing. As always the presentations are a poor substitute for attending a club meeting and hearing the discussions that accompany the presentation. In this case we had a live demonstration of Winlink in use that accompanied the presentation.

Jim, the 1965 counts for my "contest" comment at last night's meeting.
So far we have
Jerry - 1963
Steve - 1963
Me - 1964
Dr. Jim - 1965

Why do I have them?? I found my birthyear on EBay, the rest just accumulated over the years.

My oldest is 1944 - $1!

This was when Amateur Radio transmissions were no longer permitted during the second world war.? There was a lot of optimism in this publication that amateur radio would return soon!
