QSOs with World Scout Jamboree NA1WJ
Per: Probably the best advice for individual hams and Scout groups that wish to talk to the Scouts via Amateur Radio Station at the upcoming World Scout Jamboree is just to look on the DX Cluster for DX spots reporting NA1WJ. Since propagation and thus the actual bands we could use will vary, that¡¯s the best way to find us. I¡¯ll try to post some DX spots showing the frequency of NA1WJ once we¡¯re in full operation. The NA1WJ station begins to be built this week, so there might be some preliminary test transmissions, but operations really start up next week when the Scouts arrive on July 21.We¡¯ll then try to be active around the clock until August 1. During the daytime hours in the USA, we¡¯ll be looking for stations to actually have meaningful conversations with the Scouts, and not simply exchange signal reports. At night, more of a DXpedition type operation might develop. Does that help answer your question? 73 Gary Wilson, K2GW Asst Demo Station Lead NA1WJ

DMR Simplex 3
Working on my DMR code plug for Jamboree. Looking at: https://k2bsa.net/wsj-on-site-operating-frequencies/ No DMR talk group was listed. The regular talk group for DMR simplex is 99. I'm just getting started in DMR so I'm not sure, but it seems like it is required when I set up a channel. Thanks & 73 de Joseph M. Durnal NE3R

Sounds like you're in the correct place. We are the ham radio operation at the WSJ. Are you looking for some sort of scheduled contact? If you get the Voacap data between your location and ours, we can work out details. We're obviously not on the ground yet, not are antennas in the air, but give us until the end of the week and that will change. ? 73 de NE4RD

Thanks for your reply! I was under the impression that this group was part of the WSJ planning team, I was directed to this group when I a long time ago asked for the ability to communicate with the WSJ using hamrafio from other scoutcamps. Sorry if I was asking questions to the wrong people. Jambore operations 2
We are having the 58th annual Central Nebraska Amateur Radio club Hamfest and steak fry the weekend of 27 and 28 July, at Bader park, near Chapman, Nebraska. I want to see what I can do with these OMs to talk to the scouts in West Virginia. I waiting for some more info to see where I can set up portable. If things work out it will be a good time for all involved I am sure.

Anytone 868 SBR WSJ DMR Code Plug 4
DMR is new to the Jamboree, but last JOTA it was pretty busy with scouts so I woudn't want to miss out. I'm not sure if the attachment will go through the group, but if you'd like it, let me know and I'll e-mail direct. Built from the frequencies listed on https://k2bsa.net/wsj-on-site-operating-frequencies/ I hope that all that is needed is to just add your DMR ID and you are good to go. I wasn't 100% sure about the time slots, especially for the on site DMR repeater, so I went with one. For the off site DMR repeaters it looked like 2 of the JOTA talk groups were on TS1 and one was on TS2. I'm not the expert on this but I think I have it right, if anyone knows it better and could double check my work I would appreciate it. 73 de Joseph M. Durnal - NE3R

@William Stearns, are you the official representative of the WSJ when it comes to the program involving international radio communication? So far I haven't heard a thing of what possible ways to get a QSA from other scoutcamps and WSJ. I like to have something official, does it exist? LOOKING FOR TEST QSO FROM WEST VIRGINIA 4
Hello HF guys, The Scottish Scout HQ station still does not have a special call allocated yet. However, we are building a new phased array fixed antenna for 7 MHz and would appreciate a sked to test the path with someone in the vicinity of Bechtel Summit before the WSJ starts. The antenna should be ready in mid June. We have gear ready for ssb/cw but not yet for FT8. Guessing that the best time of day for this band to be open might be around midnight UTC. Anyone interested? please contact me via this group ( na1wj groups.io ) in the first instance and we shall take from there. 73 Malcolm GM3TAL (p.s. we plan also to be on 20/15/17/10m bands during WSJ with a 3 ele yagi and we may also be on 80m - which has been nicely opening to USA/Canada recently after dark)

Great Coverage in QST Magzine 2
NA1WJ received excellent coverage in ARRL's QST magazine with articles in both the June and July issues. At Hamvention the K2BSA Booth and the Icom America booth handed out information about working NA1WJ. Hopefully, we'll get a good turn out during the Jamboree for stations on the other side of the QSO for our Scouts. 73, Jim, K5ND

Welcome! 2
Just wanted to send out a welcome since we had a large influx of users. The group is moderated a bit for now to keep the traffic to relevant content for the World Scout Jamboree. I'm personally excited for July to arrive so we can start this journey that we've been chatting about and working on since the National Jamboree in 2017. Band conditions haven't changed much since then, so it's all the more important to keep multiple methods for informing those interested amateurs not only on where to find us, but that can be available for those crucial contacts for the scouts to have an enjoyable and enriching experience at the demonstration station. We hear the comments all the time about getting youth involved in Amateur Radio, and with scouting we have a captured audience that tends to want to learn about these kinds of STEAM/STEM related activities throughout their stages of advancement in the various programs. Let's work together to make the hobby shine as we're on the stage for this major event where up to 40,000 scouts could be present! If you're interested in more opportunities for radio scouting, please join us monthly the second Thursday of the month at 9pm Central on Echolink on *JOTA-365*, or checkout all the resources on the https://k2bsa.net web page. 73 de NE4RD Bill
