Re: BWRA
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýWas wondering if this group was interested in doing hands on radio projects with some new hams outside of the BWRA. On Wednesdays at 9am a group meets in Milltown across from the big main Gas Station on Highway 35. Can¡¯t miss it with the tower on the side of the building. This is an independent group who¡¯ve set up a large footprint 70cm repeater in St. Croix Falls area. They are now working on a 2m as well. Very hands on group who are there to help hams get through issues with their hobby. Many are from the PCARA group and you may know them. One has a successful YouTube ham radio video site that has caught on. Whether it¡¯s just programming a radio or building some type of equipment they are doing it. If you have a need or just looking to break out for a day, try it. K9TWC Robert.?On Apr 12, 2024, at 8:53 AM, nicholasmueller via groups.io <nicholasmueller@...> wrote:

Re: BWRA
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýThis is sad news for us all. I often wonder if we are a dying group as the hobby gets consumed by newer technology that anyone can just engage in. And then there is the corporate side willing to buy up our spectrum just waiting on the sidelines. I see similar views regarding the St. Croix Falls group as well. The hobby for me is a great way to stay in touch with others during the cold months of winter. I¡¯m intending to become more active in this club but until my home in Grantsburg is finished and sold and my newer home in Danbury is ready I¡¯m not having a lot of time just to indulge in the social encounters you all enjoy. But I¡¯m hopefull I can get together with you all at sometime to put a face to all those I¡¯ve heard out there on the Wednesday net. At last I appreciate all that you¡¯ve done Nick to keep the group rolling forward as I do understand the time and action it takes of yours. Thank you and hope to meet you soon. BWRA
We are still looking for someone to take over the official responsibilities as BWRA President. Also, if anyone is interested in starting/managing a BWRA Facebook page, let me know! If no change happens, we can just continue with our Wednesday Nets and monthly breakfasts.? Below is the message I sent out April 2022. Nick Mueller ? Effective April 1st 2022, I am retiring from the BWRA President. After 11 years as President it is time for someone else to take the group in a better direction for the good of the organization. I have run out of ideas and am finding it difficult to inspire members, get better participation at meetings, and bring in interesting demonstrations for the group. Covid had a major impact on small organizations like ours since we had to cancel in person meetings for almost 15 months. I will no longer be doing the repeater maintenance because of physical limitations. I plan to remain as BWRA Secretary, assist the new President in planning & organizing meetings, keep updating the web site & groups.io, attend the monthly breakfast and coordinate the Wednesday night 8pm Net Control schedule. If you are interested in helping by accepting the challenge of being BWRA President , please let us know!

Repeater Site Help This Weekend
I wondering if anyone would be available to help me with ground support at a repeater site in Rice Lake this weekend. I need to climb it to do some repairs to the hoisting grip and connectors. I am looking for at least one person on the ground for safety and checking things as needed. I am hoping to do the work either Friday or Saturday.

NWS Skywarn Procedures 2024
Hi all, Just to reiterate in a nutshell what was talked about at the meeting... * Please see attached "Ham Radio 2024 Operations with NWSChat" PDF document. * All counties/cities are now self-activating. The NWS does not activate the ham nets anymore. * Basically, we have gone from centralized activation, to decentralized activation. * But, the NWS has given us the tools needed to self activate and report WX from remote locations. *?iNWS?is a tool that will give us a heads up on approaching severe weather. You can personalize it to fit your location and types of messages received. Another email will be sent on how to register for iNWS and some training. *?NWSChat?v2.0 (Slack) is a tool that will allow us to send weather reports directly to the Duluth NWS WFO. Another email will be sent on how to register for NWSChat v2.0 (Slack) and some training. * A suggested?Net Activation, presuming enough people are involved: ? - One or multiple people are monitoring severe weather approaching. ? - Communicate on-air or the "other wireless" means (texting/voice). ? - Someone or a group will need to make the decision to bring up a Skywarn Net. ? - Have one person bring up the net and be Net Control. ? - The Net Control operator will "filter" out reports that do not meet the criteria that the NWS is looking for in a report. ? - Have another person listening and participating in the net as the NWS Liaison. That person will be logged into NWSChat (Slack) and able to send valid reports to the Duluth NWS. So what happens when a backhoe cuts the fiber? Or the first wave of severe weather knocks out your commercial communications/power infrastructure and there are still two more waves of severe weather coming at you? That is what we still need to figure out. More to come on that! Thank you! -Jeff ? |
