Re: Quisk 4.2.29 with linux Mint on HP laptop with Softrock 6.1
Hi Mike
Thanks for there reply. I'll try the? different inputs, take a screeshot and report back. I did get this working some time ago with a previous version of Quisk and Linux with the mic plugged into the Srartech usb sound card but I've had to reinstall Linux. Don m5aky |
Re: Quisk 4.2.29 with linux Mint on HP laptop with Softrock 6.1
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýUnder microphone what devices are listed available?? I would expect Built-in Analog Stereo or similar with maybe ¡°pulse:¡± or ¡°alsa:¡± in front them.? Try them all for best results.? Make sure your system audio sound setting defaults are not set to the Startech devices. ? Your Softrock audio will go in and out via the USB soundcard (as you have set up) and your mic audio presumably from a separate source, either a plug in USB mic, or the laptop¡¯s built-in mic, not from the sound card.? ? There should be no reason to switch the audio sources since they are not the same.? Quisk will put all Rx and TX IQ audio on the soundcard only.? Demodulated audio to the Radio Sound Output and read mic audio from the Microphone Input to do modulation.? 4 different devices. ? Maybe post a screenshot of your audio config page showing the Microphone Input list box with audio devices showing. ?

Re: Quisk Version 4.2.29 January 2024
Hi Jim,,in my case I can listen my voice when turning on only "FDX" . If I turn on "monitor" also, I get a noise only. In all case the TX send power out - infortunatly no Free DV users here.
A question for the developper : do you intend to add "pure signal" in quisk ? Thanks and happy new year to you and all members. Pascal? F6EHP |
Re: Quisk Version 4.2.29 January 2024
Thanks for the info, we'll try it as soon as we get the chance, it's my son who services us, so he'll need to stop by here first. Don't know exactly when he will come by at the moment, but you should be notified as soon as we are ready.
?
The modes we are using are 1600 and by QRM it is mostly 700C and 700D.
?
We are very much looking forward to trying it all out! Thanks for your work and the extra feature.
?
Would it be possible to have pre-emphasis enabled in FDV mode? As it is now, the voices are very dark and therefore we use an equalizer when we run FDV.
Mode 700C has never had a text field, nor should it, as it concentrates entirely on the voice part. ?
We are extremely grateful to you for your work. 73 de OZ1UM? Bjarne |
Re: Quisk Version 4.2.29 January 2024
Hello Jim,
Many thanks for this upgrade and on a direct connection to Quisk it seems to be working well and it certainly is a nice feature to be able to listen to the raw signal with the monitor. I guess that you have not looked at the remote which does not work at all for FreeDV and simply produces a tone on the carrier frequency with fairly wide sidebands. Mode 800XA seems to be working although I have not found anyone to talk to on it. It seems a lot wider than 700X but I need to look at the spec before I comment further. Thanks very much, Graeme ZL2TE |
Quisk Version 4.2.29 January 2024
This version updates the FreeDV library files and program logic. I added a "Monitor" item to the FreeDV menu. It routes the sound to the speakers instead of to the demodulator. Turn on both the monitor and FDX to listen to your transmitted FreeDV signals. Please test.

Modes 700x and 1600 are finished. The other modes will be added shortly. If you use any of them post here and I will move them to the top of the list. Jim N2ADR |
Re: Quisk Version 4.2.28 December 2023
Hello?Bjarne,
I have all the files from Quisk 4.1.40, but that version is from June, 2019, and is for Python 2.7. I am not sure whether it will run on Python3. Also, PyPi will not let me put it back on the server. It claims the name is in use even though 4.1.40 was removed. Perhaps I can make a Python3 version of 4.1.40 and name it something else. But a better solution may be to make FreeDV work properly in the new Quisk. Then you can install the latest version. I have not had other complaints about FreeDV but I will look at it. There have been few changes except for updated FreeDV libraries.? I will work on this and let you know. Jim N2ADR |
