NATIONALS

Don't know if folk have seen this but they are looking for folk to volunteer for roles at the Nationals - As with all these events they do not run withough parent support.? Most roles are still available and there are jobs on and off the water for as little or as much as you want - The on water roles are a great opportunity to see the action up close so book now while you have a choice

I’m not convinced they’d easily source the extra ribs to run a Bravo course.? It’s also very early in calendar for any new sailors.? We’d then use the August and early September weekends for doing transition training, or as class all go to RYTC windward/leeward, Tummel or Lomond etc.?

Any new 2019 boats would then get a full series in kicking off with zones at DBSC 21/22nd September.

Worlds and nationals in 2020 are back to back in Weymouth Bay and so anyone going to them? is going to want as much sea experience as possible in lead up.? So ELYC would be ideal.

Any thoughts??

Yorkshire Dales should be on the weekend indicated but the 29er class have managed to organise open and class training that weekend so we need to resolve that one.? They had it down as the previous weekend.? Aghh

I agree with you - I think doing Youths and Springs so close to exams would not be a good idea for Sam. September would be better for him.

Thanks

Youths are 4-10th April and it looks like the first SQA exam starts on the 27th April so I suspect it's all a bit too much, we wouldn't normally organise an event so close to the exams.? Can folk let me know thoughts, I think if there were any against it we'd can it but just thought I'd double check given it was an event we'd agreed on supporting previously.? Suzie still exam free in 2020 so doesn't affect us.

I'd probably replace it with the windward/leeward weekend at Tay on the 14/15th September, that includes Laser 4K Scottish champs etc so should be good.

Also if anyone interested, David Ibbotson as of two days ago, had a spare slot on a trailer going to Arco, Garda for the Europeans 16th-24th August.

Finally I'll add folk to a northern 29er Whatsapp group when I've a minute.? It's mainly the ex feva group from north of England but it's probably useful to be in.? There's not normally very much posted but odd snippets that might be of interest.? Also might be useful for organizing stuff at nationals etc.

Next year's main dates for Euros, Worlds etc.? Assuming most northern boats will do Nats and Worlds?? Probably rules out Bass Week I suspect.

Tummel Week I'd assume will be the 19th - 24th July so could be a good week of fun/social sailing before August at WPNSA.? We'll see how this year's Tummel Week goes, I think there's a lot to be said for some non serious stuff.

P.S. Another thing to talk about tomorrow?is Nationals coach support - class offering has 6 places left with Niall Myant at ?150 per boat (10 boats in group which is quite a lot). If we all want to do this we probably need to get in there quickly before these places go.
Or is RYA Scotland likely to help with support or do people want to organize something privately?

Plans have changed somewhat!

I don't think we're now doing the academy at the start, the couple of boats I thought might go aren't now and so without a couple of definite it's probably not going to happen.? The final decision will probably be made after transition weekend - see what takers are there.? We'll organise some weekends to suit newbies from late August on in place of that academy.

Tummel Week itself. There's not going to be any coaching now.? The club is wanting to keep it as a fun family sailing week and their feeling was that having formal coaching didn't fit in with the ethos of the week.?

The thought is still to have at least one class boat there for potential new kids doing the week to try out 29ering in.? Ideally if some of our gang can take them out for first few goes to start them off and get them a wee bit up the learning curve. Hopefully by the end the newbies will be able to sail together.? Or if our gang are an odd number they can sail with them for the week maybe?

We can have a chat this weekend.
