Tip cutting a long small diameter shaft

 

If ever need to cut a long small diameter shaft. A follower works or a roller box .
Like roller box but do use a follower rest too.?
If point the end of hex or square shafts a box or roller box will work great.
A box type is easy to make in shop too.

Box Tool can use for watch size shaft in small. This easy way to cut under 1/32" dia?

If need to do step shaft in more 4 pcs

This part made with two roller boxes , point tool and threading die.

This is master and has red dikem?
This was used on aircraft hangar doors by thousands across America?

The shaft on right side is machine 0.66929" [17mm] ¡À0.0001"? the threads are 5/8" NF on 3/4" Hex bar stock.?
 

Here is a follower rest.??
I always have lathe with one.?
If ever wonder how did tapper barrows.
They did in one cut with a follower rest and full length tapper attachment.?
The follower rest is setup on the straight round shaft and then tapper is turn in one pass.?
