Re: Magnetic North vs True North
开云体育It's hard to find current data, but the movement of the poles has been speeding up.? You can see it some from 1980 to 2015 but it's moved quite a bit in 10 years.? The south pole is headed for the Indian Ocean.? Also the strength has been dropping which can cause instability in a compass.Getting current data is again not easy.? Some sources have the rate of decrease accelerating past this chart. On 28-Feb-25 7:49, davesmith1800 wrote:

Re: My project thread
Mini alternator kits for nostalgia drag racing.
There are three different kits available, one which caters to the small block Chevrolet crowd, one for the 348/409 racers and of course the Mark IV Chevy big block series.
What these offered was a relocation to the original power steering location, a deep grooved pulley on the alternator and a 65 amp alternator that weighs in at about half the weight of the 35 amp AC Delco units.
The smaller size of the one wire Denso alternators allows them to fit where the steering pumps used to reside.
My kits eliminate the flimsy stamped bracketry in favor of substantial 3/8ths inch 6061 T6 ones too.
Each kit was delivered with a hardware package, so all that was necessary was the install and a one wire hookup to use them.
?
I also provided a deep grooved? 5 inch diameter crankshaft in the kits that slows the alternators down.
That gives you back a little of the power lost from winding one up.
The smaller unit saves space, withstands higher revs better and has about twice the output of the AC Delco units.

Re: mini spot welder
开云体育The welder cost under $20 USD and we had already bought it for battery packs.Looks like batches of a dozen at a time, don't know how many.? First batch is out for market test. On 27-Feb-25 20:55, davesmith1800

Re: mini spot welder
That tuff one main reason is keeping the cost down.?
They make good equipment for this work but all cost money.?
It sounds like for advertising. I do not know the number you need ,look at soldering for a low production number.?
For larger number look for company that does for advertising.?
?
Very thin is very difficult with its own problems.? Heavy has very different problems that what did most life.?
Thin was just hobby in one's and two's and level is different set of problems.? This one I a roll of very strong silver well solder bandsaw? blades and a low temperature silver solder. Both Great for a few parts.
?
How many do you need to make?

开云体育It's a bunch of clips that hold paper.this thickness is close to the range of battery packs, only for batteries it's nickel to stainless.? The nickel comes in 0.1mm, 0.12mm, 0.15mm, and 0.2mm. On 27-Feb-25 20:18, davesmith1800

开云体育Hard to hit a 2mm diameter rod with a mig welder.? The rod is only twice the size of the mig wire.On 27-Feb-25 19:10, davesmith1800

Re: mini spot welder
2mm is is about 14 gauge .
For short run I use a mig welder.?
Maybe pug welding inthat gauge.
?
Spot welders are great tool? but heavy gauges takes a lot amps in thousands amps to do weld correctly.??

开云体育We've got a bunch of sheet metal clips to attach to 2mm stainless steel rods.? Hmm, how to do this. Then I hit on it.? We have a Docreate spot welder for making up battery packs (like 18650 cells). I dialed it up to FULL POWER and tried it.? Even without cleaning the metal I got a decent weld, couldn't pull it apart by hand using moderate force (any more and other things would break). So, spot welding it is. That Docreate welder seems like a nice machine.? Well thought out and works.? We haven't had it too long so can't say how well it lasts, but it also wasn't expensive.? They sell a range of welders, here's the one we have ![]() |
