Hard to hit a 2mm diameter rod with a mig welder.? The rod is only twice the size of the mig wire.

For short run I use a mig welder.?
Maybe pug welding inthat gauge.

Spot welders are great tool? but heavy gauges takes a lot amps in thousands amps to do weld correctly.??

We've got a bunch of sheet metal clips to attach to 2mm stainless steel rods.? Hmm, how to do this.

Then I hit on it.? We have a Docreate spot welder for making up battery packs (like 18650 cells).

I dialed it up to FULL POWER and tried it.? Even without cleaning the metal I got a decent weld, couldn't pull it apart by hand using moderate force (any more and other things would break).

So, spot welding it is.

That Docreate welder seems like a nice machine.? Well thought out and works.? We haven't had it too long so can't say how well it lasts, but it also wasn't expensive.? They sell a range of welders, here's the one we have

Re: My project thread

That fantastic?
Congratulations on passing.??
We need inspectors it is a pain waiting for inspection but is very need.?
?
Sounds like you work steel
?
This has nothing with boilers. The Northridge earthquake found thousands of shops using solids on buildings. Since the late 1970’s California ban use of solid mig wire on buildings. The next big one was bad welds found on buildings and bridges. FYI I have both buildings and hangar doors in? LA area and all my shop's? work pass the xray and other test. My shop follow all rules.?

Keep up the good work on inspection it is very need to keep us safe. ?

Re: My project thread

That project was finished last summer.
We passed our boiler inspection with flying colors afterwards.
We also wrote g code to make future ones out of steel plate.
?
The new breed of pressure vessel inspectors are unaware that all riveted boilers leaked until they were first fired, when rust and calcification took over and finished the seal.
Had they let us fire it first, it would have probably fixed itself.
?
Next up is to look into getting approval to manufacture steam boiler injection pumps.
The machinework is simple, it's the bureaucracy that creates the bottleneck.

Cross slide EXSTENSION feed no mill

Here photos of my cross feed exstension.??
I polished by using the threading die chuck die in the lathe chuck. Then screw thread in the tailstock.? Put the on slow and ran the die over the thread over the threads about 5 or 6 times.?
The last photos of the nut on cross slide is from the internet I did not to disable my lathe.

Re: How it works

Dave,

This drawing is very blurry because the resolution is so low, only 488 pixels wide.? It should be at least 1024 wide.? Unless somehow you're reducing the resolution before emailing, you should be able to get an improvement by setting this drawing to be a true attachment, not inline as you have done this time.

Recently you attached a PDF which fixed a similar problem.? I'd like to see what happens if you try the true attachment method, though.

I'm a moderator of one or two of your other machining groups, amd have several groups.io of my own, so I have experience with this kind of thing.? Email me direct if you want.

Hank
