Re: Milling on a Mini Lathe

Here a few more photos of Tiag mill Attachment.?
?

Re: My project thread

It is indeed. I've got an older MicroMark 7x14 that I'll drag out of storage when I move into an apartment that isn't so tiny. I mostly use the larger lathes we have at work, because I'm not quite so limited in terms of spindle bore capacity. We have indeed talked, and you're doing great work, Dave.

The mini lathe can have a full length tapper attachment.? It work like tapper attachment from 1900.?

I have talk to you pass about your name? Hi again Dave?

Someone told me one time she thought machine shops were the most wasteful industry ever because we made stuff out of stuff after throwing some of it away.
?
I guess no one ever told her that we seldom scrap material that we can still make something else out.
We were probably recycling things after the first time we scrapped something.

If the tooth on the end of the bolt is ground to one side at one half gear pitch, you now have a 120 tooth gear by rotating the bolt.

Command center with an added shop built spindle indexing rig.
The control support was designed around existing holes for a collet closer assembly and used the clearance notch in the gear cover so when the rigging was removed, you can still close the cover.
A 60 tooth gear offers quite a few spacing options for a spindle and combined with my cross and end drilling rig, gives me many options to use it for.
The Hall effect tachometer is essential for optimizing cutting surface speeds controlled by my inverter.

This was from the same arson salvage as the lathe.

Re: My project thread

I designed, machined, assembled and tested this chemical ionization electron impact ionizer for a quadrupole mass spectrometer.
304 series stainless steel, nickel screen, machinable ceramic, vespel (properties similar to teflon with less outgassing.) and ruby sapphires.
Our average hardware was 2-56 in that unit and they were assembled absolutely dry so it didn't contaminate the ultrahigh vacuum chambers they were used in for sample testing.
The cleaning process involved eighteen steps beginning with a light percentage phosphoric acid soap scrub to a final bath in heptane after a dance thru the various specific gravities in the solvent list that were done to remove any contaminants.
Cleaner than clean and 304 screws in 304 holes was gall city for sure.
Every blind tapped hole had to be cross drilled for ventilation and there were reamed fits all over it.

Message subject change

I changed the subject line so it's not so long, more in line with other groups.? Hopefully this makes it easier to find things.??

If there's any issue with this, we can put it back as it was.

Dabbling in new steels

The cutoff blade holder for my lathe came with a missing clamp, I would normally grab a piece of drill rod to make something like that but that was on the other side of the ocean.
?
?
Here I have to learn all the metals over again as they're similar but different.
?
So, I ordered a piece of 20mm diameter ST20 to make this out of.? A simple project, not critical, but will sure make the lathe more useful.
?
I think ST20 is like a typical cold rolled steel that I'd get in the USA, but I'm not sure.? Well, as long as it isn't something hard to machine like stainless it should work for this project.
?
I have a place within walking distance that sells steel, called Metal Base.? There's also a few more within 5 or so km.? But it's all hot rolled.? Good for some projects, but I wouldn't want to make a tool clamp out of it.
?
There's a couple of online shops here (Ozon and Wildberries) that are something like Amazon.? They carry a wide range of stuff and deliver to pickup points, one of which is across the parking lot from where we buy groceries.? So, that's where I'll be getting small quantities of things like this.? For larger quantities, I would have to buy from the regional capitol which is 50 km away.? Either drive there or pay high delivery costs.? I think I'll stick with Ozon for now.
?
There's also a few scrap yards around here, I need to visit them more.? Maybe I'll find some good stuff for the projects bin.
?

To me the tiny tee slot is not useful.??
I even on Tiag website to see if they show anything on tee slot nothing.?
It is lessthan ?" [3mm] wide maybe wider.
?
I am thinking some very important to spend all that time making a tiny tee slot that is not used. Even on copies
?
More photos?
You see no tap hole for a stop on side and tee slot is both sides. The copies of the Tiag Mill ATTACH has the same tee slot

Re: Milling on a Mini Lathe

I have tee slot?
It good size maybe for a ? [14mm] bolt.
This one is less than a #5 [4mm] screw just to small even for a stop in my view.?
?
I am use to a lot bigger too where using ? bolts and a Bridge Port ? is small.?
?
FYI? the smaller size is a lot more fun. Most projects will fit in pencil drawer
