----- Forwarded Message ----- From: CFA Newsletter Staff <tkeiger@...> To: "karmacatz@..." <karmacatz@...> Sent: Wednesday, November 15, 2023 at 10:00:36 AM EST Subject: CFA November Newsletter November 15 | 2023 From the President CFA President Rich Mastin The end of the year and holidays are sneaking up on us. For those who live in colder climates, the cooler air and even snow reminds us, but it still is sometimes shocking realizing how close we are to the end of 2023. As usual this time of year, Breed Council ballot notifications will be distributed within the next couple weeks. There has been a slight delay this year with distribution, but there will still be plenty of time to submit your vote. Speaking of balloting, ballots to select the judges for the 2024 International Cat Show & Expo will be emailed in January 2024. Many of you are aware of the resignation of the North Atlantic region's Regional Director, Sharon Roy. Per CFA's by-laws, when there are 9 or less months left in a regional director's term, the office remains vacant. Although not required by CFA's by-laws, it is important that the region have representation at the Board level and the CFA Board appointed Vice President and resident of the North Atlantic region, Russell Webb, to be the liaison on behalf of the region. Planning for the region's 2023-2024 awards and banquet are already underway. Russell will provide direction and input as needed for this project as well as any other projects in the works in addition to bringing regional matters to the board's attention if applicable. I attended the Cotton States Cat Club 85th annual show in Duluth, Georgia on November 4-5 and held a town hall meeting on Sunday morning. Board members Marilee Griswold and Kenny Currle were present at the show and they participated with me. The meeting was well attended and it was a pleasure to have the opportunity to have received questions and comments in this fashion. The group of dedicated club members lead by co-show managers Cyndi Lewis, Lisa Highlan, and Charlene Munro produced a fabulous show with decorations that will long be remembered. Their commitment to CFA is obvious and greatly appreciated by all. Southern hospitality was wonderful and abundant. I am making plans to attend more shows in the future and hope to see many of you there. Wishing everyone a relaxing and enjoyable Thanksgiving holiday filled with friends, family, delicious food, and of course... a little bit of shopping! Fw: CFA October Newsletter
October 25 | 2023 From the President CFA President Rich Mastin I am reflecting on the show as I write this report, and what a show it was! The CFA International Cat Show and Expo wrapped up on a high note, due much in part to the efforts of the show committee, CFA staff, CFA Marketing Committee, and so many other volunteers and supporters. Coordinating a show of this magnitude, with 16 judging rings across two shows, a large shopping mall, continual presentations on two stages all day for two days, hospitality, announcing, advertising, decorating, and just trying to keep everything moving on schedule is a monumental task. It took many, many people and months of preparation to produce this show - and those efforts paid off. The number of spectators was amazing! We pre-sold as many tickets as we had attendees at our 2019 show, and the spectators certainly seemed glad that we were back. Most presentations - held on both the main entertainment stage and the Cats 101 stage - were full of engaged guests. Their amazement was obvious as they walked through the benching area admiring and engaging with our breeders, exhibitors and the stars of the show, our breeds. The exhibitors were pleased to have flags and cards to denote if their cats were available for a bit of love or needed some personal space. Many feline-based social media celebrities were on hand for presentations on the entertainment stage both days and our guests LOVED participating in their events. We were so fortunate to have the wide variety of presenters, many of which have their roots in the feline rescue community. This year's cat show and expo facilitated and strengthened the bridge between CFA and the rescue community. The shopping mall was certainly one of our largest, with vendors from across the US, Canada, and Asia. And what a variety of cat and cat-themed merchandise they had! The show hall had several of the "I Am CFA" banners on display, and many exhibitors have commented on how much they love this new advertising campaign. Photographer Sarah Baker was present and shot even more photos of our exhibitors, including many of our European and Asian exhibitors. Many thanks to all who participated in this project. Planning for next year's International Cat Show and Expo has already started. We will be at the I-X Center in Cleveland next year, October 12-13, 2024, and are considering a different hall with lower ceilings which should aid in the acoustics (on the other side of the concession area where the Halloween show was being set up during our show). We are also looking into other options to supplement the audio call for cats to rings. Most of all, the support from our exhibitors makes this show possible. But what really makes this show not only possible, but a success is the interaction between CFA exhibitors and the cat-loving public. They are eager to learn about the various breeds, get up close and personal and touch our magnificent breeds - breeds they've only seen in pictures. Your efforts to educate and engage the visitors was unwavering, generous and exceptional. Folks were thrilled for the opportunity to visit with exhibitors and their cats and it showed on the smiling faces. We want to hear from you! Tell us what you liked, didn't like, could be improved, etc. by leaving your comments at International Cat Show Comments. We'd appreciate hearing from you sooner versus later and no later than November 30, 2023. Your comments will only be seen by the show committee and are not available for public viewing. Although comments are anonymous, if you are comfortable providing your contact information, please do so we can contact you with any questions or if we need clarification. June 15 | 2023 From the President June is a good time of year to reflect on new goals and plans for the new show season. One reminder for all exhibitors is to review the Code of Ethics for CFA Cat Show Exhibitors. This can be found on the CFA website under the Breeding and Exhibiting tab, and also available here. Thank you to the Special Investigations Committee for creating the Code of Ethics and to the CFA Board of Directors for endorsing. The Code of Ethics outlines four specific standards and a list of criteria that will encourage exhibitors to think about ways in which they may improve the cat fancy experience. June is also a great time of year for celebrating last year’s achievements. The Regions and the International Division are holding and or planning celebrations for the accomplishments of the 2022-2023 season and scheduling new shows for the 2023-2024 season. This past show season had some sense of returning to normalcy with the greatest number of shows licensed globally and cats entered over the past four years. One might say, 2022 – 2023 was the “come back season.” Congratulations to all the breeders and exhibitors that showed their cats in CFA. Your passion and love for the sport of showing cats is to be commended. Regardless of the final placement, award received, or if you were simply showing for experience, it is my hope you achieved your goals and you have many memories to share and enjoy. Beginning May 1, 2023, CFA is offering a new club sponsorship program. Fw: Show Sponsorship & Incentive Programs
April 27, 2023 MAD CATTERS (THE) Dear Club Secretary, You may be aware that CFA continues to offer sponsorship funds to CFA licensed shows. An application is submitted and the request is reviewed to ensure the show is eligible for the type of sponsorship requested. A new sponsorship offering and an incentive for Miscellaneous/Provisional/AOV show entries are available for the 2023-2024 show season. The INFREQUENT-REGION JUDGE sponsorship will help defray expenses for shows which contract with CFA judges not often seen in the show's region, the "Infrequent-Region Judge" supplement. With this new offering, there are now 5 different categories for possible sponsorship: Regular, In-Conjunction, Agility, Region 9 Airfare and Infrequent-Region Judge (IRJ). IRJ funds are available to shows in all areas (except region 9 since they have a separate supplement for airfares) which contract with a judge (not associate or guest) who has not officiated in the show's region/ID in the prior 3 show seasons. The sponsorship amount is $500 per judge/per show, one per show. There are sponsorship funds available for two shows per region (1-8), the ID-China/Hong Kong/Macau and the ID (excluding China, Hong Kong and Macau) for a total of 20 IRJ sponsorships for the 2023-2024 show season. A chart to assist you in determining which judges have/have not judged in the various areas is online for your convenience: https://cfa.org/wp-content/uploads/2023/04/infrequent-region-judge-sponsorship.pdf. The application for sponsorships funds is available online also: https://cfa.org/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/show-sponsorship.pdf. All types of sponsorship may be requested by licensed shows. We are often asked "When are funds paid?" After the show is held and all required documents and fees have been received by the Central Office. A rebate is available to show which discount MISCELLANEOUS/PROVISIONAL/AOV entries. The discounted entry fee must appear on the show’s flyer provided to Central Office prior to the show. The cat(s) must be listed in the catalog with a registration number. The compensation will be up to $20 per entry based on the actual discount (e.g. if the discount is $15 off the regular entry fee, the club will only receive $15, if it is $25, the club will only receive $20). Central Office will contact the show secretary by email after the show to notify them of the amount of the rebate available to the club based on the information in the catalog and flyer. The show secretary will have 30 days to respond to the notice and claim the rebate. Clubs may decline the rebate. The cap for this program is $2,500 for the 2023-2024 season. Please be sure the individuals in your club responsible for organizing shows are aware of these programs. Allene Tartaglia Executive Director atartaglia@... 330-680-4070
