Erasing hard drive 15
I recently purchased a new lap top to replace my 10 year old MacBook Air. I¡¯ve set up the new machine and transferred all the data and now to erase the hard drive on the old machine. I restarte and held down CMD+R to reboot in recovery mode. I selected the hard drive and clicked erase but when but there was no security options button. I normally do a maximum security erase (7 passes of the hard drive writing 0s). But there was no option to do this - just erase. I believe it¡¯s an ssd drive. Could that be the reason I cannot do a 7 pass erase? If so why is that? Thanks. Harry

Yahoo/AOL Email
Good morning, Does anyone on here still use a Yahoo or AOL email account? If so, are you having any issues? Around Thursday/Friday of last week I started having issues with a mail account from AOL not syncing properly in Outlook 365 on my laptop. My inbox and other folders in Outlook will display my messages as they should, then they suddenly disappear and Outlook shows them as empty. Upon checking the Sync Status window in Outlook it will show that Outlook is downloading the entire mailbox. Once this takes place, everything appears to be fine, but shortly after I start interacting with the messages, the folders will pop up as empty again and the whole process starts all over. I was also receiving Sync errors during the download process stating the Drafts, Sent and a few other folders could not be created because they already existed. Saturday evening I went into Outlook's Advanced settings for the affected account and confirmed the mapping for the Sent, Drafts, Junk and Trash folders were all mapped to the appropriate folders on the mail server. (I had logged into webmail and it looked like some of the folder names in webmail had changed or were in odd places). I wondered if they had changed their folder structure on the mail server side? I also turned off the IMAP Idle settings for this account to see if that would stop mail from reloading. I figured I could manually hit send and receive when I wanted things to update. I'd also read about some folks who were having problems if they had rules set up in Outlook to move messages to another folder, which I did, so I disabled all my Outlook rules for this account. Sunday morning everything seemed to be working fine so I turned the IMAP idle settings back on to see if that was the problem. Everything worked fine all day, until just before I got ready to go to bed, when it all started again. The only difference this time is that so far I haven't been receiving the Sync errors. This morning I was checking another mail account from bellsouth.net (AOL and bellsouth.net are both Yahoo-based.) and the same behavior started happening there as well. I have a third account set up in Outlook, but it is an Exchange account through work. It seems to be working fine so far, so I'm thinking something has changed with the Yahoo mail systems that is causing the issue? I did find a few people complaining in an online forum of the same behavior and it seemed to start within the last week for them as well. I can't help but feel like Yahoo-based mail clients have changed something that is causing their mail to not function properly with Outlook. I am on a slightly older version of Outlook, but some of the folks complaining in the forum were on the latest version, so it doesn't appear that the Outlook version is an issue. I tried removing and re-adding the AOL account in Outlook and that didn't help. Both accounts are also set up on my iPhone in Mail and they seem to be working ok there as near as I can tell, with the exception that some messages are showing up twice in Mail and in the webmail version too. I'm sure that is because of the syncing issue. For example, when I move a message into a folder in Outlook it appears to move, but then later when it finishes downloading the message is back in the inbox but also appears in the folder it was moved to. Support wasn't much help either, they just told me to use webmail or their mail client and not Outlook. Just wondering if anyone else is having issues or have any suggestions to resolving the issue. Thanks! Beth

Can I get any dummer? 5
I have an older Mac Pro, internally there are 4 drives, a 10 TB, 1 TB, and two 8 TB¡¯s. I¡¯m going to sell the unit so I made sure all the internal drives were backed up to the external, then I started formatting the drive¡ Since all 8 were in a line down the side of the screen I accidentally erased an external drive and also had erased the internal. I sure would like to retrieve the files, most are family photos and videos. Do any of you know of a utility program that I can use to restore the drive? I know there are firms I can ship the drive to, I¡¯m guessing they are very expensive¡way back in DOS days I again didn¡¯t know what I was doing and I deleted the entire hard drive. There was a guy in the Windows user group that came to my office and restored the entire drive¡that is what I need to do now. I appreciate any suggestions. Thanks. John

What Do You Think 2
AI, Artificial Intelligence¡.. The latest rage, from amazing to the destruction of all mankind. My son is a filmmaker, they have been shooting their latest so one afternoon after completing the scenes for the day they opened a Mac Laptop, opened one of the AI apps and ask the program to write a 30 minute film, gave it the plot, the number of players, the location, and other particulars. In less than ten minutes it not only wrote a fantastic script, it laid out the scenes, the actor speaking, the room settings, placement of cameras, sound, the complete program. It was crazy, reducing to minutes what would normally take months to do with all the many faucets of shooting a scene. I¡¯ve read where programmers are really going to be hit hard, middle management, even the medical field. Really? That¡¯s going to hit the banks hard, many loans unpaid, tax revenue for Federal, State, Local governments would be hit hard due to all the unemployed. Microsoft and Google are wanting no regulation, no pulling back, Musk has parked his program until this is thought through, maybe Federal Regulation? We will stay tuned. Amazon FireStick 4
In the last month I have purchased an Amazon Fire Stick and a Roku streaming device. The ROKU works like a champ but the FireStick works well when it works. Several times since I purchased the FireStick when I turned on the TV and accessed the FireStick¡¯s HDMI port all I ge is a black screen. I tried changing batteries in the remote and sometimes that worked and sometimes it doesn¡¯t. I called Amazon support and they sent me a new remote but the issue still occurs. I think I need a new device. Anyone else have this issue? Harry

Apple ID and computer ID
Did you know you can connect to your iCloud account using your computer password. I inadvertently used my computer password when logging into iCloud and it connected. I was talking with support about another issue and asked about this and he said oh yeah it can be done because the computer stores you Apple ID along with the computer ID. At least I think that¡¯s what he said. He told me this can be done with any of your devices. Who knew?

ScamWatcher
Maybe most of you already know about this site, to me it¡¯s amazing. A personal friend contacted me three months ago, asking what I knew about CryptoCurrencies. We had many discussions and the more he took me into the world he was being pulled into by a beautiful young lady it was obvious this was a scam. It continued, one rathole after another, I was forever trying to dissuade him from pursuing this journey. I won¡¯t bore you with all the many, many conversations, text, emails. I will say this drop dead gorgeous girl was asking him to fly to LA, she would cook him breakfast, she lived in a 13 Million dollar Villa, drove a Rolls, Tesla and a Mercedes and her neighbor was LaBron James¡.right. She finally ask him to fly to Hawaii for a week with her. My friend called the CBOE Options exchange. He had them log onto the site that had their symbol and their URL, and the lady said yes, that looks like us, but it¡¯s not. She directed him to a site ScamWatcher.org. Once there he didn¡¯t sign up but typed in the name of the company that he was dealing with. I¡¯ll copy below what was discovered. I¡¯m sending this to you just in case you ever wonder if a site is legit, has it been reported, does it have a favorable or shady account? There is much more about this company that isn¡¯t listed, but it¡¯s good to know we have a place to see if there are problems. John

Venmo 4
Anyone use Venmo? Is it secure? I assume it¡¯s attached to a checking account. I have Apple Pay but only use it to pay in stores and it¡¯s attached to my credit card. Can I also use it to receive and/or send cash to someone. Again I assume I would have to attach my checking account to Apple Pay. Thanks.

Understand URL Source 3
There may be now way to help someone as naive as myself, I wanted to ask if there was something I could look for. A friend is being taken dow the Prime rose Path, I¡¯m sure a scam investing in Crypto Currencies by a gorgeous woman, who is putting up the funds for him to trade. I¡¯m sure Payment comes down the road. I wanted to at least look at the code behind the URL, but once I opened it up I¡¯m clueless. I guess i¡¯m looking if the site is legit, if there is a redirect from a legitimate site to one that¡¯s a scam. There may be nothing that can be explained, I thought I would seek the knowledge of some of our briliant folks. Many thanks, by the way this below is from Dillard.com, I chose one at random The code below scrolls for pages and pages John

How does this happen? 4
Working in my office I hear the Smart TV turn on, I go to the screen and there is a authorization code on the screen with the name of the person requesting. If my Apple TV is protected with a passcode, as is everything we own, how in the world would can someone in another apartment select our Apple TV to be granted access? I¡¯ve never had this before, what do I need to do to hide our Apple TV¡¯s or any other devise? Maybe it¡¯s an Apple problem, I did just update every devise, including the two Apple TV¡¯s to the lates system yesterday. Many thanks, John

Folks, I¡¯ve looked into what RSS feeds are and learned that each site, podcast, create their own RSS feed, so finding a good one depends on the site you desire information from providing the feed. Right? I¡¯ll go back to the FED site to see if what they are suggesting they provide. Thanks. John
