I know this is a Mac list. But¡ Surely there are folk on here that use iOS 17 and/or iPadOS 17. I can¡¯t find a mailing list for that iteration of iOS for information sharing like this one for Mac OS - Locally. Is there any interest in having an old time face to face meetup to chat about Apple, Macs, iOS etc? Exchange some tips and ideas, uses and abuses that we find helpful. If there is any interest I would be willing to make arrangements for it. Drop me a line here or at my address below. Richard Richard D. Meadows Louisville KY 40212 (502) 593-5830 rmeadows@...

Apple One Family Sharing
4
Hello everyone, Been doing a little research as we try to consolidate services and cut back on expenses. My husband and I have been using iCloud+ storage, Apple TV and Apple Music under separate iCloud accounts. In doing the math, it may save us a few pennies and give us a boatload more storage going with the Apple One Premium plan. Most likely I will set my account as the main account and then invite him to join. Just curious if anyone in the group is using Apple One and Family Sharing and what you like/don't like about it before we take the plunge. It's just the 2 of us that would be utilizing the service. Thanks! Beth

Buffett
Interesting John Buffett likes high-quality businesses with low capital needs, such as Apple. The technology company boasts some impressive financial metrics ¡ª a testament to the company's efficiency, strength and negotiating power ¡ª which have enabled it to thrive during this period of inflation. The tech giant ranks as Berkshire Hathaway¡¯s largest stock holding at over $170 billion as of June 30, 2023, making up over 45% of the conglomerate¡¯s entire portfolio.

Little Snitch
7
Hi all, In the past, Quicken did just what I wanted: functioned as an accounting program. I've never been interested in having Intuit see what bills I pay or see what I have in my retirement accounts. Starting about 2 years ago, Quicken insisted on calling home to update security prices, so in true paranoid data-gatherer-hatred style, I would turn off my Wifi connection whenever using Quicken. This worked pretty well until earlier this year. Now it is impossible to add any transactions to so-called investment [1] accounts when offline. I reported this on the community forums and spent 2 long, painful chat sessions with the Quicken help desk until the helpdesk finally said that Quicken has to call home for 'data validity'. Hah. Anyways, I've tried using /etc/conf to block the calls home, which didn't work (I'm not great with /etc/conf). I tried Little Snitch, and found what outgoing requests needed to be blocked, those to qm.quicken.com investing.quicken.com So... I can stay online AND keep Intuit from sniffing around. Anyways, before I plunk down the money for Little Snitch, has anyone used it and liked it? has anyone used it and found it caused problems? does anyone know of a reliable free way to get Intuit to mind its own business (there are some shareware/freeware things which aren't likely as nice as Little Snitch, but I haven't tried them yet). Thanks for any tips, even if they are of simple accounting programs without the rent and bloat of Quicken. Cheers, Bill [1] Correct term: speculation.

LG tv plus Apple TV

In times long gone, we had tvs in bedrooms, den, and basement, all connected to cable (thanks to Radio Shack¡¯s multi connector spitter - shhhh!). Then things changed and we somehow survived with one big screen 4K LCD TV in the den with an Apple TV connected thru wireless streaming. What a picture and great choices. That tv had apps built in but they always seemed slow and limited. De

BARRON'S: Apple Pay is Getting Popular. That¡¯s a Problem for PayPal
Interesting story. John Apple Pay is Getting Popular. That¡¯s a Problem for PayPal Apple continues to move deeper into payments and PayPal is feeling the pain. PayPal (ticker: PYPL) still dominates as a provider of digital payment services, but its lead is narrowing as rivals gain share. Apple Pay, which was launched by Apple (AAPL) in 2014, has been making the most strides, Lisa Ellis, analyst at MoffettNathanson, wrote in a note Tuesday. Those troubles are apparent in PayPal¡¯s stock price, which has gained only 3% this year. Its closest rival, Block (SQ), has advanced 23% Read in Barron's: https://stocks.apple.com/A5zND0yA_QH-Goa35PPb0Qw Shared from Apple Stocks

AT&T Fiber and Router Questions
7
I'm not much on networking, so looking for some advice. Our neighborhood recently gained access to AT&T fiber service and we are wanting to upgrade. With our current AT&T service we have their modem/router and then we have a separate Linksys router set to bridge mode that we use to handle all our devices. It has several nice features that allow me to map/identify all our devices, do port forwarding and it supports both 2G and 5G networks as well as a Guest network. The router is old so I'm sure it won't support the new fiber network speeds. Just wondering, do we even need a separate router behind the one provided with AT&T Fiber these days? Any advice/info from anyone using AT&T fiber is appreciated. Thanks!
