AppleCare

Three years ago I purchased an iMac with AppleCare. AppleCare has expired and Apple is now offering to continue AppleCare for $60.00 for one year.

Is this something I should or want to do?

Harry

Tough question. Just some brainstorming here...

Everyone has a different risk aversion level. I never buy the AppleCare. If a machine dies it just gives me the excuse to buy the latest and greatest. YMMV.

If you are attached to that device and want to be sure you won¡¯t prematurely be without it, $60 isn¡¯t that much either.

Another thing is that you don¡¯t use yours for work much, so even if the machine is getting a little long-in-the-tooth, it should still meet your needs for years to come. In that case the $60 might be worth it.

Good luck with your decision, Harry.

Jonathan,

My last iMac lasted about 8 years. I never had an issue or needed a repair. I have always bought AppleCare whenever I purchase a new device. This is the first time Apple has offered to extend the policy.

I probably will not purchase the extended care - it would be $60 a year.

When the computer gets ¡°long in the tooth¡± I know I will get a new one - even though my wife will groan. ?

The only repair I remember having to do on an iMac is replace a hard drive. That was two computers ago.

Thanks for your input.

Harry
