Locked W2LI magnetic loop operating info

I recently acquired a W2LI magnetic loop. Does anyone out there have any operating or usage suggestions or experiences you could share with me. I operate mostly QRP.

Jim,

Type in W2LI Magnetic Loop Antenna on your browser, whereupon you will gleam a lot of info on the W2LI QRP MLA, that is made and sold by Tri County Radio Association, which has on its website - info on their MLA - and also how to tune it.

It has a tuning capacitor that is rated @ 1KV, so it can handle at most 10 watts.

There's nothing magic in tuning a MLA to resonance, viz, you can tune for max noise with one's receiver, and you can also tune it for lowest SWR- using a small amount of power.

Warning: Stay far away from a MLA when you are using one to transmit- so you do not later come down with prostate cancer, and then wonder - what caused it.

Do your body a great favor by reading:

And, when you are ready to learn a lot more about MLA, read the attached classic paper of Leigh Turner, VK5KLT, who is the guru of MLA's.

All the Best,

Hello,?
I do not own a W2LI mag. Loop, however, I do own a Chameleon F Loop Plus. I also? build mag. loops for multiple or different frequencies. Anywhere from? 80 to 2 meters. I have experimented in the 70 CM band.
Basically all loops are tuned for strongest noise level on receive then fine tuning using a SWR meter for lowest swr on transmission.
Myself I have found it more productive to use an antenna analyzer to tune the loop to the frequency I want to operate at.
Then connect the radio to the loop and if I need to readjust the loop due to frequency change, I will use the swr meter to retune the loop.
I am designing a IR controller for tuning my loop. It uses a radially available stepper motor and control board from ebay.
It is designed to be able to be attached to practically any loop tuning capacitor via a shaft coupler also available on ebay.
Anyway, as I said, using a analyzer to tune a loop to a specific frequency is the best way I have found.
Another way is to make and attach a physically non-connected field stringth meter to the or in the vicinity of the tuning cap. This is where the strongest rf voltage is on a magnetic? Loop. This way, you tune the loop,? under a safe low power setting, to the highest signal strength.
Hope this helps in some way.
