Locked Transistor LF Noise and 10 MHz gain and Noise Figure update
Here's an update with one added transistor. Someone suggested eBay for the 2SC5551. I found two Chinese sellers and ordered a set of 5 from each; one of them came today and I tested it. To start with

Good. It seems to have got a number of quite interesting designs mentioned. I was amazed about that flow caloriometer for micro watt power levels.

Nuts.....typo: J310 or U310. Dyslexia typing, I guess.....NOT J301 or U301!!!! Dave [email protected]> wrote:

The J301 or U301 in the common gate configuration is hard to beat when it comes to dynamic range!!! Dave - W?LEV

I had a Burhans loop amp and active whip amp, when I tried Lowfering back in the mid-1980s. Sorry Ralph and his kits are not around any more. 73 W6CJ

If you don't mind looking at YouTube videos, W1VLF has some nice videos about some loops for VLF. The designs are fairly simple if I remember right.

Marcus made reference to the Burhans loop preamp in his post.? Ralph Burhans offered these as a kit (Ralph has now passed away), which is what I bought directly from him.? I have been using this

200ft of wire? Don't worry about the loss and mismatch. Depending on your RX, most likely you will need an attenuator anyway. I used DIY 4:1 and 9:1 transformers on BN43-202 cores with random wires

I have had no end of trouble with my credit union accepting my card to Aliexpress. No problem with most other Chinese vendors. I no longer even attempt to use Aliexpress. Dave - W?LEV wrote:

Thanks for this info. I tried to earlier buy one from aliexpress, without luck. But just now see eBay has them under "HFDY loop antenna" and just ordered one, so eventually hope to report on it. Steve

Interestingly, this antenna is made by the "HFDY" folks, who also manufacture the best (IMHO) of the Malahit DSP-1 clones, aka "Malahit SDR V3". I have this model of portable SDR and think it performs

I used for a few years a shielded loop built with 3/4" CATV cable, using the PIN connectors for this type of cable and an 8 port tap enclosure as part of the antenna, to hold a generic pot core

This might interest some on this list - it's a forum to discuss test equipment design and construction. There's quite a thread on Q-meters, which might interest some.

Thanks, Steve, for the source of the 2SC5551 BJTs. I would prefer building with something that will remain actively sourced for a while. After all, how long has the 2N2222 been around, not to mention
