Re: Entry Level SDR recommendations
Save your money and don't buy a USB dongle.? You will quickly find it not suitable for MW DXing and it will go in the drawer.
AirSpy and SDRplay make low cost SDR entry products.? You will find

Re: Entry Level SDR recommendations
Opinions solely my own and reflect my own experience.
I started with an SDR Smart from NooElec and I used it with HDSDR. I found
it frustrating and overly complicated.
I then tried an RTL-SDR dongle.

Entry Level SDR recommendations
Good Afternoon all,
After years of chasing MW DX with "real" hardware, I'd like to try SDR and would appreciate recommendations about what I need to get started.? In particular:
(1) Are any of the

Re: LZ1AQ amp With 2SC3357
Not quite that simple. Here is the complete eqn for calculating the
Linvill Stability Factor, K, or in this presentation, C:

Re: LZ1AQ amp With 2SC3357
While you are in the S parameters (wish they would expressly state the reference impedance), the first numbers of the S parameter pairs is the magnitude. Second is the angle.
If you divide the |S21|

Re: LZ1AQ amp With 2SC3357
All of these BFU5xx series from NXP seem to have a good high ft. However,
if you consult the gain vs. frequency, all of them pretty much die out
above 1.8 GHz. NXP does not rate gain or noise figure

Mike,
It does make much difference anyway, as Digiky no longer have them.

Re: LZ1AQ amp With 2SC3357
From the data sheets here are the absolute Max Voltages. As you can see the 2SC3357 has lower VCBO and VCEO:
2SC5551??? 2SC3357
VCBO??? 40???????? 20
VCEO??? 30????????

Re: LZ1AQ amp With 2SC3357
Thanks Fred. I was not aware of the history. The ones I have were sourced from DigiKey, so they are the EVVOSEMI parts. I also tested them in the Ikin Norton amp and they are equivalent to the 2SC5551

Re: LZ1AQ amp With 2SC3357
The 2SC3357 = NE85634 was a CATV RF Transistor manufactured by the japanese semiconductor giant RENESAS (merger of Mitsubishi & Hitachi & NEC) and later CEL (CA/USA - NEC partner). Production was

LZ1AQ amp With 2SC3357
Just compared 2SC5551 to 2SC3357 in an LZ1AQ amp. There is almost no difference in IP2/IP3 and frequency response. I was going to post to say the 2SC3357 are available, but looking at Digikey there

Re: Deshibo GA-450 Loop Antenna Modification Question
Yes, these are very common connectors I see all the time.
A standard 9-VDC "transistor" battery will supply roughly 400 to 500 (not
the Chinese knockoffs) mAH of energy. With that and knowing the

Re: My PA0FRI active loop receiving antenna
I was talking about transistors in general, not specifically the BFU590. Although BJTs don't have protection diodes, they are often use active bias / current mirrors. The current mirror is another BJT

This applies to FETs, either JFETs or MOSFETs. Especially MOSFETs have ESD
protective diodes. BJTs generally do not. Therefore, the noted decrease
in current with oscillation likely applies to only
