Locked Active loop antenna

Hi,
On minicircuits.com catalog, there are some interesting mololithic Rf
amplifier ERA/MAR series offering good IP3.I would like to know if you
have some schematich diagram to homebrew an active broadband loop
antenna from 100 Khz to 30 Mhz !!
Best regards

Thanks for the input. I don't have the lot size or supports to get
the loop any higher then what I have which is 30 ft at the highest
point. The apex is pointed down and at about 6 foot off the
ground. The antenna works great positioned as is, just courious
what I would gain by going horiziontal with it at say 25 feet. From
what I understand it is a bit directional moounted verticial. I
guess all I can do is try. Every instalation is different and I
need to try and see what works best for my location.

I just built a super loop antenna for 80/40. It also works well
on 10-
20. I have it vertically polorized. I have heard that positioning
it
horziontal will provide better performance. Has anyone out here
with
experience with this antenna. I thought of building a skywire for
80m,
but I can't support 278 feet of wire. Currently I have 218 ft and
I
can work with that as the very most.

Any help would be helpful.

Hi,

'Sky Wire' is a euphemism for an antenna system with lots of wire
arranged
in one way or another in a loop arrangement .... in early days
they were
generally arranged in a vertical configuration while more recently
the
horizontal arrangement is popular. If designed to be naturally
resonant at
a particular band they are 1 wavelength in circumference and can
be fed
with a coax feed line. If not resonant, or more than 1 wavelength
they are
generally used multiband. In this case they are fed with balanced
open
wire feed line and tuned with an antenna tuner. Performance is
generally
unpredictable and mostly a necdotal.

I know that a 1 wavelength loop that is vertically oriented with
the center
at least 1/2 wavelength above ground is a 'hot' performer. I
have had
mixed results with the 'lots of wire' horizontal 'Sky Wire'
approach. Height above ground beats mult-wavelengths every time.

I'm doing that too. Right now I'm trying to see how well I can pick up
the NOAA polar orbiter satellites with my PCR-1000 and decode APT's
which are sent down. I only have a discone up at the moment which is a
lousy antenna for this application, not being circularly polarized,
but I thought if I could receive anything, I'd go the next step and
put up a turnstile or QFH antenna and a decent 137 Mhz preamp.

Unfortunately, this is off-topic for this group but what the heck.

Locked New Loop Project

jr_dakota

I just got a Lego Mindstorms NXT robotics kit with a very cool 32 bit
ARM7 controller that's been open sourced, hardware and software ... It
supports Bluetooth, USB, and I2C communications ...

So one of the projects I'm already starting to work on is an automatic
loop tuner for portable loops .... basically I'm making a SWR bridge
for input (This is the trickiest part but shouldn't be too bad using
the NXT Toolkit for National Instruments Labview which the provided
programmibng software is based on) and using one of the motors to turn
the tuning cap .... Turning the tuning on and off will be done on a
laptop, PDA or desktop using Bluetooth allowing me to put the loop
away from the operating position and still be able to autotune it

So it will work like this ...

I switch the antenna over from the reciever/transciever to my AMQRP
Antenna Analyst which will feed in the desired frequency, then I
enable the autotuner via Bluetooth, let it tune and send back a signal
when it's successful, then I turn off the autotuner, switch the
antenna back to the reciever and I'm ready to rock ....

Once this works out successfully then I'm going to try making an
autotuner using a pair of variable caps and a roller inductor
controlled directly by the NXT

Hi Andrew,

I had this problem when selling a Lowe PR-150.

I had people saying they would outbid all others.

I decided the fairest option was to set a price and offer the unit
to the first person who contacted me. He was happy to pay the price
and I was happy to sell so it seemed fair.

Alternatively you could put it on eB*y
