This is a high quality design with good large signal handling and a 3 dB NF. Being connectorized, I can use it for other antennas. I like having it around for a general purpose preamp for experimenting with other receive antennas. With 30 dB gain, it can drive my 1000 foot coax line to the back of the property. Anyway, the amplifier is worth a fair amount of money in its own right. Rick N6RK |

Pretty pricey, but if I didn't have DIY skills, I'd certainly be looking at one.

What the use of spending $800 odd dollars on a comms receiver, and feeding a noisy signal into it? You'd be far better off buying one of these and spending less on the radio itself. Unless you enjoy listening to QRM. As they say - garbage in, garbage out. ANDY ZL3AG On 4/02/2014, at 9:05 AM, <dstremme@...> wrote:

For one thing the Pixel Pro-1B is too expensive. Not a whole??lot of hobbyists
want to spend $500 for a receiving loop antenna, myself included. Why does
it have to be so expensive?

Re: Question About Tuning Diodes
I would not use LEDs as varactors. The LEDs act as photodiodes to some extent, generating noise. It's better to use a zener diode, if you have to. On Mon, Feb 3, 2014 at 6:20 PM, <wa4qal@...> wrote:

I've done a number of remotely tuned antenna designs and the varactors I like to use have been the MVAM109 and MVAM115. But, those and their direct replacement, the NTE618, are difficult to obtain and pretty expemsive. The 1SV149 is currently available for a very low price in eBay (#200609638692) and has been used by a number of people as a substitute. Chris Trask N7ZWY / WDX3HLB Senior Member IEEE |

Question About Tuning Diodes
Hi All..... I have a question that I hope someone can help me with. I am planning to build an outdoor remote tuned loop antenna. I have read that you can find tuning diodes in the range of 40 - 700 pF. Does anyone have any experience with such diodes, and if so, where may I find them. Where I live, there are no electronic parts stores, so I will have to order them. Thanks in advance.

File - UploadingFilesLinksPhotos.txt
If you have a link relevant to the group, please post it in the Links section. If you just put it in a message, it will get lost in the shuffle after a few days. The coverage of the list is pretty broad.
All members can upload Links, Files, and Photos. A few guidelines: Try to place them in the proper folder, if it exists. If not, you can either just put it in the root folder and eventually I'll move it into the proper place, or create a folder. When creating a folder or uploading a file or photo, please don't use spaces or punctuation. You can either use caps for the first letter of each word, or use underscore as a space. Like this: "4x8Loop" or "4x8_loop" or "Steves_4x8_Loop" Not like this: "Steve's 4 x 8 Loop." That goes for Folder names and File names. A special note about the Photos section: Please crop in to the important parts. For photos, JPG saves smaller and looks better, for line drawings GIF is smaller and looks better. Please do not use TIFF/TIF or BMP files, the file size is way too big and I may delete without notice. Feel free to ask if you need help figuring out how to crop and resample. Irfanview is a fairly easy to use program that loads just about any file, you can crop and resample from there: Or for more complex stuff, another free program is GIMP: Attachments are now allowed, but please use judiciously. Rather than going out with the messages, they will be stored on the list but you'll get a link with the message. A last note: if you see something in any folder or in the messages that looks like spam or simply inappropriate, don't post on the list- email me directly and tell me about it and I'll take care of it with a minimum of fuss. loopantennas-owner@... What is the lowest capacitance on one of your kits, along with the max. I keep seeing the highest being listed but nothing about the low end. This is important to me because I have one loop that works great on 30 meters and 40 meters but just lacks a going low enough to cover 20 meters. Have minimum and maximum would help to calculate what length and size material will work. Both values would be great to know if possible. And yes I know if I make the loop length shorter that will change what is needed.? This will make it easy for me to order a few kits. thank you Date: Thu, Jan 30, 2014 at 7:49 AM
