No RF output on digital suddenly

Ok, I'm hoping something is not wrong with the radio but that is looking less and less likely.

I have a Yaesu FT-991a that has been working FB for a few years. The other day I sat down at the shack to do some FT-8 and noticed that I wasn't getting any power out when transmitting.?

I've done system updates which includes kernel updates, obviously rebooting etc. to no effect.
I've also recently changed my desktop speakers from ones that used the on-board audio to providing their own soundcard?via USB-C.?

I can easily use pavucontrol to setup the audio devices and what applications they are attached to and am receiving audio from the radio fine. Even when sending audio to the radio the VU meter built into pavucontrol is showing audio.

I've reviewed the menu settings many times at this point using Dave's guide and can't find any problems.

I have done a full reset on the radio and set everything up from scratch.?

I can turn on the monitor (MONI) and I can hear audio when I use the front mic but not when transmitting digital modes (AND I don't know if that's expected to work).?

I've also tried using a Signalink USB which is configured to use the DATA port of the radio which had the exact same results. Receive audio works fine, no TX audio output.

To summarize...
1. Receive audio works using on-board sound card, TX audio does not.
2. Receive audio works using Signalink, TX audio does not.
3. CAT control works
4. PTT works

Any other ideas before I ship the radio to Yaesu??

Thanks,
Richard

Chances are, you are sending audio to the wrong USB speaker port.? This is digital and we are sending SSB.? If the radio isn't getting audio input, then you get zero power out - that is the nature of SSB.? You did some switching around with speakers, your driver?names may have changed.??

It suggests that maybe an audio switch or amplitude setting for the
Tx/Data modulation is somehow turned off or to zero. Could also be the
old left/right channel swap problem.

I'm not sure about the detail of the FT-991A modulation source
configuration. I suppose I could download the manual and have a look,
but lack of familiarity means that you might spot something more easily
than I will.

I avoided putting pictures in my original post but just to add some details...

I've been on Fedora since?version 12 and have been a packager for over 12 years so while I always try to accept the fact that I may have missed something simple, I'm pretty?sure that's unlikely in this case.

For WSJT-X I have used pipewire and configured the audio via pavucontrol as well as selected the audio device manually. No dice...

I've also done the same in Fldigi trying to get PSK to work. Same results.?

As previously mentioned, when I transmit the VU meter under the device does show activity...

The PCM2903B device is the USB sound card for my FT-991a.?

Richard,

Is there power out in CW, keyed at the 991A ?

What about carrier modes like FM/AM etc ? Any power there ? Starting to look like a faulty PA.
I assumed you had checked other modes, and was just referring to FT8 >> SSB etc.

Full power on other modes, basically anything that uses the mic.?

I think Dave was on to something about not getting RF on CW but I changed the KEYER setting to ON on the M-LIST and then got full 100W output using the mic PTT as a keyer.

Thanks,
Richard

Do you have a schematic or service manual? Might be able to pinpoint
where things could be going wrong in the USB/M-DIN path using that.
