I'm running fldigi 4.2.05.24 on a RaspberryPi4 on Raspbian 10 buster. The station runs 24/7 and several times a week when I remote in to the Pi I find fldigi is no longer running.
This evening I was actually looking at the display when it happened. I had entered a command, and it timed out dues to open squelch, reported that in the receive pan then immediately aborted.
Anything I can look for to help troubleshot this issue?

Bad typing, sorry:
"timed out due to open squelch"
"in the receive pane"

Hi Rick
.xsession-errors in the home directory usually contains the
terminal output of any application errors. The other possibility
being run fldigi from a terminal.
A look at the journal or syslog plus dmesg may also contain some
clues. ie things that happened at the same time the program died.
Also possible to run fldigi from the debugger. Would be a good
idea to build to the latest version first though. Buster is
getting a bit old too.

Rick,
I'm seeing the same issue with my Linux Mint 22 machine using Fldigi
4.2.06. Usually during a busy net Fldigi just stops. When I run TOP
it tells me that Fldigi is running way above 100% CPU utilization.
It's intermittent and during FM and HF nets. It happened to 2
different computers, new Linux and Fldigi build. I can't be sure but
it may have started happening when Linux moved to Pipe Wire audio. I
am using the WIKI for the Fldigi build.
I don't have any problems using Windows.

Rule out:
?
1) RFI. Nearly all problems with this setup are RFI until proven otherwise, including the RF from your antenna being too close to the computer (or battery sometimes).?
2) Vibration or movement of the computer-radio interface cable.
3) Static electricity sources
4) Aging micro SD card in the pi
5) Check uptime to verify if fldigi is crashing or if the computer is just power cycling.

Rick, I also use fldigi 4.2.05 on a Pi4 using Buster. My system was stable for until I started using flmsg. With it running, fldigi would freeze every few days. Without it, I can operate two simultaneous instantiations of fldigi (FSQ and Thor) for weeks without problems.

Same problem here with Debian 12 and fldigi 4.1.23 (latest in the mainline repository).? Locks up every few days with high CPU utilization.
?
It's the program, rather than some RFI or other environmental.?? Been there, have the t-shirt.? Too predictable for that, plus the OS and other programs run rock solid.

My guess is a Pipewire incompatibility as mentioned.? Will be checking out the potential flmsg connection.

fltk 1.3.8 is what's on my Pi. I really need to upgrade the OS before continuing to troubleshoot this, Buster is just too old to be fussing with.

Thanks Dave, I will try the debugger.
I just did a new install on my new install of Linux Cinnamon Mint 22

Pipewire is supposed to
emulate the API calls for pulseaudio.? I do not think that
pavucontrol is compatible with pipewire.
When working with PipeWire, you can use audio mixer controls
like "qpwgraph" (a Qt-based graphical patchbay), "Helvum" (a
GTK-based patchbay), or Carla (a JACK-based mixer) to manage
your audio routing and mixing, depending on your preferred
interface and complexity needs; for more advanced audio
processing, consider using dedicated plugins within your DAW or
applications that support PipeWire integration.
Key points about these options:
??? qpwgraph:
??? Considered one of the most popular choices due to its
user-friendly interface and Qt framework, offering a visual
representation of your audio connections within PipeWire.
??? Helvum:
??? A GTK-based patchbay that provides a similar functionality
to qpwgraph, with a slightly different interface.
??? Carla:
??? While primarily a JACK-based mixer, it can be used with
PipeWire through the JACK protocol, allowing for more complex
audio processing and plugin integration.

Sounds good. Just like I've always had it. It just confused me a
little because I'm hearing from the tech world that pipewire is the
replacement for pulseaudio so I thought we would have to change the
configuration from pulseaudio to portaudio using pipewire. It's a
challenge keeping all of this straight LOL.

Sounds good. Just like I've always had it. It just confused me a
little because I'm hearing from the tech world that pipewire is
the replacement for pulseaudio so I thought we would have to
change the configuration from pulseaudio to portaudio using
pipewire. It's a challenge keeping all of this straight LOL.

If you are using Pipewire
as the audio controller then simple check "PulseAudio" on
the fldigi Soundcard/Devices dialog tab.

Thanks David,
So I installed qpwgraph and when I run it I see a graphical
display but I don't see any slider bars to adjust audio. I can
see pipewire in my pulse audio volume control application so
is it okay to use that? Here's what it looks like:

Also, in Fldigi sound card configuration do I need to select
PortAudio, pipewire for my Devices?

When working with PipeWire, you can use audio mixer
controls like "qpwgraph" (a Qt-based graphical
patchbay), "Helvum" (a GTK-based patchbay), or Carla (a
JACK-based mixer) to manage your audio routing and
mixing, depending on your preferred interface and
complexity needs; for more advanced audio processing,
consider using dedicated plugins within your DAW or
applications that support PipeWire integration.
Key points about these options:
??? qpwgraph:
??? Considered one of the most popular choices due to
its user-friendly interface and Qt framework, offering a
visual representation of your audio connections within
PipeWire.
??? Helvum:
??? A GTK-based patchbay that provides a similar
functionality to qpwgraph, with a slightly different
interface.
??? Carla:
??? While primarily a JACK-based mixer, it can be used
with PipeWire through the JACK protocol, allowing for
more complex audio processing and plugin integration.

Thanks Dave, I will try the debugger.
I just did a new install on my new install of Linux
Cinnamon Mint 22 using the WIKI. I followed the console
and couldn't see what version of fltk it was installing.
Here's some notes I'm not sure about when I do the build:
****
sudo aptitude build-dep fldigi fails...
ny3j@ny3j-NucBox-G3:~$ sudo aptitude build-dep fldigi
Unable to satisfy the build-depends: Build-Depends:
debhelper-compat (= 12)
Unable to apply some actions, aborting
so I continue to do sudo apt-get
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get build-dep fldigi
When I do the sudo aptitude install pavucontrol command I
get the following:
ny3j@ny3j-NucBox-G3:~$ sudo aptitude install pavucontrol
[sudo] password for ny3j:??????? ?
The following NEW packages will be installed:

It's the program, rather than some RFI or other

Too predictable for that, plus the OS and other

My guess is a Pipewire incompatibility as
mentioned.? Will be checking out the potential
