At-1000 pro 2 and 10m

Interesting “feature” with my At-1000 pro 2. When I tune on 10m it will sometimes tune a good SWR, but the band sounds dead - no noise, no nothing. A retune and the band is full of life. This only seems to happen on 10m. Using an end fed long wire. Any ideas why?

What radio?? Sounds like it might be T/R relay circuit sticking.?

Any chance it’s just going into Bypass mode the first time? Or connecting to Ant 2, and you have a dummy load there?

?

If you “save” the correct tune, does it go there automatically the next time?

?

Or maybe a bad relay …

I've noticed the exact same behavior with my AT-1000 Pro II and IC-7300.? I'm using it with a K4KIO hexbeam.? I don't think I tried it on the Buckmaster 7-band OCF but will try to remember to do that tonight.

My AT-600 ProII does the same thing.? It is not going to bypass because the SWR is good, but signal levels are down 10 dB or more on receive.? IF I go to a different frequency and retune, the signal levels come up.? I am using it remote with a 25' unshielded cable for control.? I have ferrite clamp-ons on the control cable at the antenna, but my suspicion is that RF on the control cable is interfering with operation.

I’m using an Icom 7300. A full retune or frequency change cures the problem. It’s a strange one!

As far as I know the AT-600 and 1000 do not go into bypass after tuning, wish they did.

The only way I have got them to go into bypass after tuning is to use the other ALE program, connect the LDG USB device to the meter port and set the parameter in the program to control these tuners.? Have not figured out a way yet to do this with ION2G.

If you find a way please let me know.

A momentary (very quick) press of the TUNE button puts the AT-600 into Bypass mode, whether you just tuned it or not.

?

The question is, if you need it to tune, why would you want it to subsequently go into bypass mode?

Sorry, misunderstood question.? My early reply was in reference to using ALE.? When scanning with ALE you would want the tuner to go to bypass after sounding/transmitting.? If tuner remains in line while scanning it has an affect on the other freqs being scanned.

Please disregard my early post.

Lyn, I have also been wondering about the bypass/quick/full tune button setup since the AT series was introduced - very awkward function combination! ?The timing gap between a quick tap to bypass and a 0.5 second press to quick tune is just too narrow.. ?In bright light, the bypass indicator LED can be hard to see unless it’s directly ahead. ?More than a few times, I have inadvertently bypassed the tuner while tuning. ?For something as critical as a bypass, it should have its own button.

I am actually thinking of redoing the front panel buttons and have them controlled by a Raspberry Pi Pico + relay board to enhance the tuner’s capabilities to run in my remote rig setup. ?Doing so would allow remote access to the tuner functions and eliminate human button pressing timing concerns for end users..?

Memory tune on the LDG AT-897 Plus tuner is done by holding the TUNE button until the LED comes ON. ? Perhaps this is also possible on other LDG tuners. ? Perhaps not. ?

(The AT-897 tuners were only compatible with the Yaesu FT-897/D transceivers).

Steve –

?

When I first set it up, I felt the same. But now that I’ve used it for a while, it seems natural to hold the button for a second and the issue is gone.

?

I seldom use bypass and virtually never use quick tune.? I just let it follow the rig and do its thing.? I’m “sort of” operating remotely, as I am more focused on the computer screen in front of me than the rig/amp/tuner etc which is on another rack 90 degrees to my right.? Once “trained,” when operating WSJT-X (or any other digital SW) I just listen for the momentary “click” and know it’s ready to go.? I’m actually pretty impressed with this little unit.? In some ways, it’s way ahead of my Elecraft KAT500.
