sugar scoop rub rail replacement

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

Has anyone else replaced the rub rail on their sugar scoops? Anything I should know or do? Was wondering if there was a sealant or adhesive I should be using.

?

Thanks in advance,

I¡¯ve done it and helped a friend do his. The rub rail is very stiff and impossible to install unless you heat it. Two methods work great: a heat gun or, a huge boiling bowl filled with water heated with a propane burner to heat the whole rail. I rented the ¨¦quipement. Easy to find...on the continent.?

1- With the heat gun you have to be careful not to overheat and burn.
2- boiling water approach you have to figure out how to keep the remaining rail in hot water and work at a decent pace. it cools down quickly. You wont be able to complete a hull fast enough not to reheat. I got half way down to the latter. Don¡¯t try to force it in with tools and such. Won¡¯t work and you¡¯ll damage it and waist caulking! With hot water you can¡¯t burn the rail so safer.

i used 3M 4000. Put it on the hull joint, press the rub rail in and clean up.

1-2 day job. Time well spent!

I purchased the rubrail through Lagoon: Just 70€ per side for Lagoon 380!? Shipping cost more than doubled this.

It fit into a large platic tub as found in hardware stores. I added hot water and let it sit for at least an hour, leaving the tap open a bit so the hot water was constantly replaced and really hot.
Then I just pushed it over the scoops in one go and let it cool for a few hours. Once cool it retained the new shape and it was easy to take the lowest part off again, add some sika, and push it on again. Last thing was cutting the trim at the ends, and fixing it with the screws.

Easy job as long as you have access to (unlimited) hot water.?

I got mine here in the states for $110 plus $30 shipping. FOR BOTH SIDES! I'm not sure but I think they messed up by sending both but I won't complain. This was thru Beneteau parts here. Thanks for the suggestions, I was planning on using a heat gun (limited H/W) and look at the 5000 to seal.?
