220v systems in the US

How well do used Lagoons purchased?overseas function in the US? Are there lots of problems? I've heard it's dangerous, but have never heard about nor read an incident report. I understand the electrical difficulties, but how successfully have people navigated this without changing out wiring, etc?

We have had our 220v wired boat in the US for a year now. ?We live aboard and are docked, so have use plenty of power on a continual basis. ?We have A/C, washer/dryer, TVs, kitchen appliances, etc.?The marina we are in actually runs 208v 60h. ?We are on an end tie, so actually usually only get about 204v. ?We also have 2 boat side plugs, 32A and 18(?)a. ?

When we were looking at the boat, we were worried about this as well. ?But the value on the boat was worth the risk.?

After a year. - Happy as can be. ?We have very little issues. ?But you do have to think through stuff.

We have several inverters on the boat. ?I have 1 500w in the galley for misc appliances. ?Things that take much power don't work, so you have to plan accordingly. ?We also added 220v EU plugged appliances (toaster over, microwave, toaster). ?All purchase off of amazon or eBay. ?No issues with any of them. ?

I have a second inverter for TV/stereo electronics. ?Most will handle 110v/220v. ?But some don't. ?Plug accordingly. ?Laptops, cell phones, etc all just plug into the 220v system, with cheap plug adapters. ?I bought a box of 12 plug adapters on eBay for like $5.

We were worried about the A/C. ?But ran it frequently late summer, last year. ?The only issue we had was an occasional "low voltage" shutdown on the big salon A/C unit. ?But this is because its getting 203v(ish) and its not while about that. ?When we have been places with proper 220v, no issues with the 60h vs 50h. ?

The only thing we can't run off of shore power is the washer/dryer. ?It really wants the 50h. ?So we use the marina facilities, which frankly is a lot faster. ?Or, for that small load of delicates that the Admiral wants done, we run the generator. ?Give me an opportunity to run it to cycle fuel anyway. ?

Things that don't work - Guests hair dryers and hair straighteners. ?I try to tell them that you are on a boat and put it up on a ponytail. ?But some like to see the flash and blue smoke of their favorite hair appliance when they plug in. ?We did buy a 220v EU plug hairdryer on amazon, just so I can say I have one.

Generally, its 98% painless. ?You do have to think though new stuff, and know what things draw, power wise. ?But it really hasn't been a problem at all. ?I would buy another 220v50h EU boat in a heartbeat. ?

Hope that helps.

The two sockets on L400 are 32A for A/C and 16A (not 18A) for boat systems and battery charger.
Single A/C unit, even large one, or two units will happily run on 16A shore connection.
But it needs correct voltage, i.e. something around 220v (+/- few volts).

We just purchased a 2014 400 S2 with 220 EU as well.? A couple of points I have been told

1. Many of the concerns?I have read was that the wiring requirements are lighter for a 220 vs a 110.? Where that is true I was also told that Lagoon wires their boats to meet the higher grade wire requirements of?US system whether it is a 220 or a 110.?

2. If you look on your PC, your Apple devices and many of the other phones you will see most are able to use 110 or?220 so all?that is needed?an adapter plug as noted.? ?We have a Sailright sewing machine and I was concerned about the use of that machine.? The machine states it will run of 50 or 60 so all that is needed is a converter that is greater than the max amps listed on the machine.? I usually go up 20% to 30% higher as most motors driven devices?to have some peak pulls.? I contact Sailright directly and they recommended the option of running the converter but do also sell conversion motors and foot pedals?of you desire.

3, I think the other suggestions are right on that having a handful of adapter plugs (very cheap item) and a few converters?(also available in different sizes at reasonable rates) will accommodate?about all your needs.?

If you have a ton of money I have seen boats rewired for both but have never seen a final price tag.? We intend to cruise mostly outside of the US so 220 was good for us and does not seem to be too much of an adjustment if needed.?
