Re: Fresh water appearing above nav station

Thanks for your responses?Very interesting......I shall look into the bimini supports,?and follow up. There is a wrap of tape around the portside-most support¡¯s seam so maybe?a previous owner was ?dialed into this as a source. I?appreciate your taking the time to respond.

Re: Fresh water appearing above nav station

Good point which I had forgotten.? We also drilled drain holes in the bottom of the SS bimini support tubes.? This does prevent water build up inside.

Re: Fresh water appearing above nav station

Hi Brian
We had the same issue. I opened the panel above the place where the water appeared and checked the seal between the deck and the cabin wall. I found a small area without sealant, towards the front - port side - and put Sicaflex on it. I believe that was the place where the water entered. Since then all is well. I have not gotten the impression that the water came from aft. If you find anything else, please post.

Good luck!

Best regards?
Martin / PACHAMAMA (hull 519)

Re: Fresh water appearing above nav station

Might be a good time for me to mention the supports for the 410 Bimini.

The 2 supports as well as the 3 at the ¡°windshield¡± (front) don¡¯t have any drain holes in the bottom. Now water shouldn¡¯t be in there but it does get into them from someplace. This caused the 2 main supports to collect water in them and over a winter they froze and expanded cracking one of the tubes. The fix (other than having the tube replaced) was to drill drain holes at the bases. A friend of mine with a non Lagoon had the same issue with one of his safety rails freezing so this may be a common problem with tubing in general.

We also found water in a similar location.? We found (eventually) that the water was getting inside the SS tubes that support the bimini.? We resealed the base of the tubes where they are screwed in just by the helm area.? Since re-sealing, no more leaks.

Re: Fresh water appearing above nav station

I'm not quite sure where you mean, but I had a leak around the external chartplotter above the steering wheel which led to drips onto the chart table inside.
hope that helps.

Fresh water appearing above nav station

I own a 2007 380s2, hull#409. Recently I noticed a small but definite water accumulation above the nav station on the horizontal surface that creates the coach roof just inside the port aft cabin. Fortunately, equipment mounted behind the vertical panel at the nav station sits on its own fiberglass platform/shelf. The water appears after a rainstorm but all deck fittings appear sealed, albeit difficult to visually access. Has anyone else experienced this issue? Is there a seal between the helm station decking and the interior that might be compromised? Suggestions welcomed.

Refrigerator upgrade on my 2017 l42

2017 l42 Would like to change the current isotherm swing open refrigeration unit in the salon to a 2 drawer unit but not sure if the Dr160 will fit in same space. ?Anyone out there have a 2019 which now has the unit factory installed?

Thanks for that suggestion, have checked with flexifold and they say that it is not needed, but will try just to cover that base.

Fixed 3 blade prop dia and pitch

I have a L380 #311 with Volvo 29 hp saildrives. Currently I have Volvo 3 blade folding props that work Ok. I would like to have two 3 blade aluminum as spares. Does anybody know the diameter and pitch that best works to my application?

George

Re: Flexofold problem

I've had Flexofolds on four different boats. You're probably way ahead of me on this and it may already have been suggested to you, but since I didn't see you mention it, I've found the most important item with Flexofold props is using Volvo Penta water resistant grease. Pull each blade and grease the teeth on the blade and hub, and don't use it sparingly; wipe excess up after reinstalling each blade. When installed, the blades should fall open on their own.

Just a thought...

Flexofold problem

I have this ongoing issue with one set of my flexofold 3 blade props. It won¡¯t open when going astern. All good going forward.?

I have had the prop inspected and measured by prop engineer and no fault found. Have switched props over, side to side, and problem followed the prop. So drive is fine.
Flexofold in Denmark have answered my emails and offered suggestions, all of which I have covered, with no improvement. ?They quoted me the cost of buying a new prop! Their support has stopped there.?

I have seen two other online posts where the same issue has occurred, sadly no solution found. So it is evident that this is an issue with Flexofold props that can occur for no obvious or explainable reason, but must be a flaw in the design that rears up in certain circumstances.?

I have hauled out and had the props inspected again by industry experts and still no solution. I will just switch the blades this time and go back into the water. Maybe this will eliminate, or not, any possible issue with the hub.?

The props were always clean and free of any obstruction, absolutely no damage, blades are the same weight and were working fine until it stopped opening in reverse drive. I put a fixed prop on the drive and it worked perfectly in both forward and reverse.?

So, if anyone has had a similar experience and can offer a suggestion not already covered, I would be very appreciative!?

Cheers and safe sailing!?

Lagoon 440 aft cabin bed headboard

Hello,

our Lagoon 440 029 is missing aft cabin headrests (they were missing when we bought the boat, but the velcro attachments are present).
does anyone have closeup images and hopefully even full measurements of them?
Do they come on top of the nightstands on both sides of the bed?

Yours,
Miikka

Re: Solar for lagoon 440

after 2 years on lithium, we are very happy live on boards.?

Have 400 ah lithium and 360 w of solar and for our boat that is mainly 12 V is more than enough. Our solars are on davits and can rotate, which helps often to start charge just after sunrise.?

Run generator very rarely to charge. It is great when one can go without turning on engines on multiday passage where sun is shaded. It sorts itself out after arriving in anchorage. I charge full with generator only after 10 consecutive days not fully charged which happened 2x. Let solar do absorption.

If we need to upgrade to more solar, i will use better panels, panasonic when i last checked that will give for same footprint and weight improvement from 180W to 240W? so from 360W to 480 W. So far there is no need.?

There is performance and aesthetics penalty having too large solar array that one should consider.?

Re: Solar for lagoon 440

Hi, I like the simplicity of this. Design. What¡¯s the mechanism to alter the angle. Please send pictures. Should I just install them flat? I am looking at 4 or 5 390w panels. Do you suggest going for fewer panels and more lithium?

Re: 410 Rudder Quadrant Corrosion

Obviously the wrong material for the job/location. ?Rather than buy ¡°like kind¡± replacements from Beneteau, I would remove the existing parts and tanks then to a local machine shop. Have them replicate both arms in either SS or aluminum for you.?

Re: 410 Rudder Quadrant Corrosion

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

Byrne,

The Beneteau site has them listed as (I believe) a ¡°Tiler Leaver¡±. Part # 046766, #41 on the diagram. Your not going to like the price though, $3K.

Subject: [lagooncatowners] 410 Rudder Quadrant Corrosion

?

These are the rudder head fittings (quadrants) attached to the port rudder on my Lagoon 410.
It appears that corrosive sea water leaked through the emergency tiller access through the hatch cover directly above these fittings. The corrosion is very deep into the galvanized steel fittings. Where can I get replacements for both the upper quadrant and the lower autopilot quadrant? Also are these somehow keyed into the rudder shafts or just tightly clamped around the posts.
