Re: [LagoonOwners] sd50 oil change

Jerry,

Thanks for the pic. Was unaware of that method. I put on about 150 hours a? year, and haul every other year. When I haul, I can open the screw and get all out that way, and on the other years, just use a hose to suck it out and yes, some is left, but more new than old.

I do wish they didn't use a screw, but rather a bolt. I worry that I will not either be able to unscrew the screw or not tighten it enough.?

Re: sd50 oil change

one can take out all oil with correct adapters in emergency, like after water ingress.?

Warm saildrive oil? to make slight positive pressure.
Unscrew bolt at the bottom of saildrive, put on adapter, open dipstick, suck out all oil.?

Fill in new oil, close dipstick, remove adapter and screw back bottom bolt.?

Maybe couple drops of water gone in saildrive and couple of drops of oil out,? but not enough to make impact.

Re: sd50 oil change

Basically it is impossible to remove the whole quantity of gear oil in SD-50 from above. The manufacturer's instructions are to do it on the hard.
I think that this was changed for the SD-60 gear, but the above is correct for both SD-40 & SD50

I would consider Li batteries too. Coming down in price and a fraction of the weight. Last a lot longer and no maintenance.

Joe,
Yes. ?I’ve changed the oil many times this way.

The SD-50 manual has the process. ?An image from the manual is below.

You need adapters and you pump air in from the top and the oil comes out from where the bottom adapter is connected:

You can’t get all the oil but most of it comes out.

Hi all, For 12 years I have changed the saildrive oil when I replace the lower oil seals every year. (out of the water of course)

What is the secret to getting all the oil out?

What I've done is just change that little bit at a time, and more often. In other words I remove and replace what I can.?

Hope that helps.?

Re: Batteries

Sounds like overnight at anchor you are using in excess of 240 amps of power (if it was less than that you would be making it through the night). If you go with 4 x 140 amp that gives you a usable supply of 280 amps. Enough to make it through the night assuming you start off fully charged. The original alternators on the boat are most likely 80amp Hitachi models. Sounds good but once hot they probably put out more like 30amps each. In order to get to a 90% charge state, you would need to be running both engines at least 4 hours each day. 100% charge is unlikely in less than 8 hours due to the charging acceptance curve of the batteries, plus remember, even when the engines are running, fridges etc are still pulling down the battery power.
Unless you regularly run engines or generator this much every day, you be well advised to upgrade the alternators to something more useful on a boat. Not only will this help get you through each nights power requirements but should make the batteries last a lot longer as well. Fuel savings from a year on the generator would more than pay back the alternator costs. I recently upgraded to 2 x 210 amp alternators and find a huge difference.

Short answer is Yes the system will handle it. As for the Battery I’d go with the Northstar batteries, 180 to 210 AH. Expensive but are well worth the price.

Hi All,

?

I have a Lagoon 40 Motor Yacht that originally came with 4 140 AH gel batteries that were defective and they were replaced in Italy with four? AGM 115 AH batteries (because it was an emergency and nothing else was available).

?

Since then I have added numerous electric components and am unable to make it through the night on house power.? My base service team in Croatia has run calculations and is suggesting that we upgrade to four 180 AH AGM batteries.

?

Does anyone know if this is ok and whether or not the alternator, transmitter, power distributor, and electric charge dividers can handle these larger batteries.

?

Appreciate any input.

?

Thanks,

Re: [LagoonOwners] Flat netting for trampolines

Hello,

Thierry lagoon 420 FOX TEAM

Need help from a Lagoon 450 owner

I have a Lagoon 450 F 2017 Hull 573 and locate in Cocoa Beach. The starboard bow was badly damaged in Erma and needs to be reconstructed. The fiberglas company I'm using to repair it asked me if I can find a Lagoon 450 2017 -18 so we can make a lite mold of the end piece. It will require 24 hours and will not leave a mark on the boat and somewhere close to Florida would be great. I am willing to pay for the favor. Phiip

Ahoy fellow Lagoon Owners -

Quick question - does anyone know the french manufacturer for the flat trampoline netting in France ?

The netting does not have any knots and is very smooth and tight and works well for dogs and humans .
