Agree with Meir. For our L400, I made a strop of 1/8 inch dyneema to replace the velcro webbing that came with the boat. Spliced eyes in each end and used a small shackle to secure it. Works great as

I called it a boom-strap/mainsheet-strap. I had one made by Stix-n-Rig'n( www.stixnrign.com ( http://www.stixnrign.com ) ) in Kemah, TX, US and shipped. The original was 52" circumference(26" folded)

I would not invest too much effort in tracing original setup.
Any piece of line, preferably dyneema would serve the purpose.
Only my opinion of course...
