Re: #alternator #alarm on #alternator #alarm #lagoon400

The black wire comes from the engine where it is switched by a green relay attached to a hose behind the alternator (see picture). This relay is controlled by a small red wire with silver dots and a red connector at the green relay. The red wire?rubbed on a sharp corner and shorted to the engine block (see picture). After fixing the short it still does not work -- the red wire is not getting power when the engine is on.

Any suggestions on what to try next would be greatly appreciated.

thanks
Alex

Re: #alternator #alarm on #alternator #alarm #lagoon400

Thank you! I found the fuse and the relay. However, both seem to be in working order.

The black wire at the relay does not get connected to negative on the battery when the engine is on. I think this black wire controls the relay and should be connected to negative, when the engine is turned on.

Can anyone tell me where the black wire comes from? Where is it switched/connected to ground? Is it in the engine compartment or at the control panel/gauges.

Seachelle is L400 #434 and was one of the first L400s to get 45hp Yanmar engines 4JH45.

thanks

Re: 2017 l42 issues with exterior caulk

Your issue is with the white caulking at the fiberglass seams and not the black caulking around the windows, right?? To remove the mold/mildew stains in the white caulk first get a supply of lint-free rags (white T-shirt material). Then cut the material into 4 X4 squares.

Using acetone, wet a square and make one even swipe on a short section of caulk. Do not rub back and forth or reuse the piece of rag as this will only smear the dirt.? Repeat this with a new piece of rag until the caulk is clean. It should not take more than a few swipes at most, then move on to the next short section.

It also works well on the sugar scoop rubber if your vessel has it around the edge of the sugar scoop.

For some reason I tried a pen erasure we have onboard.? It worked on a few spots, but not on very many.? Specifically Paper Mate White Pearl.? If your caulk is coming out, I don’t think this would be good.? Good luck.

Re: 2017 l42 issues with exterior caulk

We have a 2015 Lagoon 40 MY that was manufactured in January and we picked it up in LaRochelle in July.

Our salon windows leaked during our first three weeks of sailing the biscaya to Portugal.

Lagoon promised to take care of it but their fixes were never more than caulking over the old. We finally had all the caulking removed and reset at Marina Baotic in Croatia. It was an unexpected but totally worthwhile expense. They did a great job and it’s now been three years with no more leaking.

We love our Lagoon but in short, Lagoon has not come through on any warranty issues and we truly felt abandoned by them.

On the plus side, after four seasons and 1,100 hours, our Lagoon has had no major issues.

Re: 2017 l42 issues with exterior caulk

We have the same problems -- bad discoloring and mold spots in the calk, and unsatisfactory warrantee response. Seachelle was finished in February 2015, motored to Antwerp, and then shipped to Oakland CA. We took delivery May 2015. We cannot recommend shipping after this experience.

The mold spots and discoloration are on the seam all around the perimeter between the deck and hull, and around the base of the saloon windows between the plexiglass and the deck. The calk is soft and unsticks with moderate scrubbing so we quickly abandoned trying to clean it and try to ignore it, we hate it but don't know what we can do about it.

We tried lightly scrubbing (soft toothbrush) with starbright deck cleaner, vinegar, soft scrub, bleach, cleaner wax, etc. Nothing works. The calk just comes loose. Just after the last attempt the first person to walk past, without prompting, mentioned that bleach might remove the spots -- uuuuhhhgggg!!!

Re: 2017 l42 issues with exterior caulk

From my understanding, Lagoon’s caulking has been an issue for quite some time. Not sure if you are specifically talking about window caulking or not, but the windows on most of Lagoon's boats need to be re-bedded at some point.

In some ways, it might have been a blessing that Multi-Tech brushed you off. We received similar lines that the French caulking was cheese and we went ahead with Multi-tech re-bedding our salon windows, a year ago, on our 2007 Lagoon 380. We were not pleased by by the work done by Multi-tech. One corner was coming loose after about 9 months and most of the exterior caulking was pulling away. They later attempted to fix it because they happened to be in Annapolis and Multi-tech’s own caulking work was pulling away again after a week. We later ran into them at the Annapolis Boat Show and did not get real feedback to the continuing issue. Additionally, they made a substantial error in the number of hours billed while we were in Lauderdale, that we would have not otherwise known about and been able to correct, had we not been on the boat and tracking their work.

When we were in Savannah, over the summer, we had the picture window in our owner’s cabin re-bedded by Coastal Concepts. Robert and his team did a stellar job, coming in under budget, for a fantastic price. Really wish we would have had all four done!

Best of luck correcting the issues. I’m sure many others can attest to Lagoon’s caulking as a pain point.

2017 l42 issues with exterior caulk

I received my vessel in ft Lauderdale last September and noted then that all the exterior caulking was discolored with black and grey mater.
Asked the Lagoon warrenty service group in LMC - MULTI-TECH and they just brushed us off as all French boats are calked with some kind of French cheese. We were told that we should make warranty request which we did and end of march and we were blown off again. To late to ask for warrenty.

Now this year after sitting on the hard in St. Augustine Marine Center all summer for hurricane season we finally got back in the water and at the dock did a start of season wash down and now find chalk is black and coming out with very light scrubbing. What is with this, to say the least not happy at all.
Reading up and searching web sites sounds like we are stuck with stripping and replacing.

Is there some solution for this issue and has anyone with a 16-17 production year with same issue as I think it is a production issue where the chalk never cured and was shipped out with sticky chalk looking to grab dirt and absorb it.
The vessel did ship out of France on it own bottom July 4 2017 and was delivered to Ft Lauderdale in late August just in front of Irma.
The dealer there did nothing to help us this and neither did the warrenty service company.

We Just Love everything about our Lagoon 42 hull 142 but the disgusting grey and black moldy looking chalk.

Re: Lagoon 400 weight

My L400 just off hard lifter was brand new so I assume weight accurate mine is loaded weighed in at 12000 kg.

Re: Lagoon 400 weight

To make things clear, and to ensure we are in safe limits, and my background is physicist, I have calculated boat weight using archimede law, meaning boat weights as much as displaced water. Got 12.8 T, using some hull shape approximations and excel and measurements of hull immersion in totally flat water. We travel light and have not too many gadgets. Boat performs quite well compared to other cat brands.?

So, that lift must have been way off, as calculation error is less than 1 T.?

I can now get pretty exact weight any time using only hull immersion measurement .

If I recall, the sensor is installed from above. The sensor is inside a plastic shell and the top has a slightly larger diameter than the bottom. To remove, I had to get inside the anchor locker and push it up with a screwdriver (or hex wrench) after I had removed the gypsy. See pic here:

I’ve seen some write ups with pictures online, but none were the same model as mine. Look for “” or “” where they detail the process.?

Good luck!

Re: L400 rot in forward anchor locker

There is thread on this issue on Crusier forum. You may want to check. Variety of cases. Ones without any damage and with considerable damage. In my case, i drilled holes as per lagoon instructions. As this leaves still 2L of water inside, installed simple drainage that keeps the area virtually dry. There is no damage as issue detected early. Just rechecked after 3 years and all in pristine condition. So no need for intrusive fixing. Check if any damage on front bulkhead, where watertanks are attached. If yes, you have bigger problem that will require repair, ideally under warranty.?

Re: L400 rot in forward anchor locker

We found the same issue on a L400 we had under contract, so I think its not an isolated issue.?
