Re: USA shore power cables for Lagoon

开云体育If your boat does not have a main breaker on the incoming line that is rated at 30 amps, and you provide a 50 amp service to it, worst case is you set your boat on fire. If the pins looked burnt, I’d guess either the socket on the boat is corroded, the connection was not tight, or you came darn close to a fire drill. If you can see arc pitting on the pins, replace both connections before using.Options: 1. Install a 30 amp breaker on the incoming line (before anything else splits off it). If the burnt pins are from overload, you might be tripping it frequently, so think about how you are using power and manage that to keep under 6600W 2. Rewire - IMHO not cost effective, but YMMV The US and euro electrical systems are very different, from what I understand. In US 240v is 2leg plus neutral. Potential from each leg to neutral is 120v. Potential between legs is 240v. Note that many modern electronics are rated for 100 to 240v at 50 to 60hz - read their labels and all you may need to do for some is use a power adapter or buy a new euro cord. For example, my USB charger bricks work fine in Europe with a plug adapter. -Rob On Jun 30, 2018, at 2:15 AM, Jeff Burnes <jeff@...> wrote:

Lagoon 440 Davit failure
First major issues in 10 years, currently in Dominican Republic on our way to the Grenadines...
Anyone know of a better set-up, we were caught in a fairly large storm at sea when a large wave broke into our dingy... it didn’t take long before the davit started failing,? I always thought the dingy rode to low for my liking. Need to replace ASAP, looking for constructive advice.? |

Thanks Stuart, I only have the one socket, on the boat to connect too. It is 220 volt/ 30 amp - A local electrician rewired a lead and we plugged it straight into the 125/ 250 volt / 50 amp socket (shore side) and it worked but the socket pins looked burnt after I pulled them out. I am concerned this could damage my boat wiring???

Lee shore
We will be sailing area where anchorages are not ideal - Vanuatu and threat of sudden wind shift & lee shore is real. Never been in situation like that but there is first time for everything.?
Have to prepare for time when at night have to exit anchorage in a hurry against ugly seas and wind and then sail say 20 nm behind island or just stay in open. L400 is big and has lots of windage. So, i think this is area requiring special attention. Thinking to deploy in worst case mainsail third reef and both engines. Any experiences or other ideas? ferenc |

Frank: We went through the sail replacement process last summer, and decided to go with Far East Sailmakers. I also thought they must be a "standard" size, on a shelf somewhere, with no luck. We were hard-over on getting black sails, and none of our local guys were able to provide. The process was relatively straight forward, you just have to take your own measurements and fill out all of your options. We decided on a new 130% Genoa, and a new main, with three reefs, all off-shore fabric, and got away for around $4500,?give or take. If I had to do it over again, I may consider a square-top main. Tim,
How thick of a piece did you use, and what material? ?Aluminum or SS? I was able to source a new end piece from Lagoon. ?For a nominal $1,778.40. ?Or the entire new door for $8k. ?So thinking I am going your route. Thanks, S- -- Stuart S/V Rum Away 2017 Lagoon 450S #33 |

开云体育If you have access to , this little gadget (or others similar to it; nothing special to this one) is *REALLY* handy for tracing wires. Used it on a house wired by … well, I dunno … maybe a drunk squirrel. ?Diconeect power, connect leads to ground and hot and turn on tone generator. Use pointy one to trace wire routing. For the $20 or so spent, saved me multiples of that in frustration and destructive investigation. -Rob

Re: Salon Door lock frame broken
开云体育We made an 8 in.+\- piece that goes vertically inside the slot. ?It attaches top and bottom inside the frame of the door. The piece has a slight turn of the edge to make it more rigid. The middle part of the slot has a cut out for the mechanism and holes above and below that to attach it. ?I has worked great. ?I don’t have pics. ?I hope the explanation is sufficient. You can use a standard cable.? I had the same situation on a 2008 420 and confirmed with Lagoon that both 220 and 110 use the same wiring harness rated for the higher amps for 110.? While buying the cable I also went to the Smart Plug and was so glad I did.

Re: USA shore power cables for Lagoon

We have 220v as well, with 2 plugs on board. ?They are (guessing off the top of my head) approx 30a and 20a. ?One is house power and one for A/C. ?I spent forever trying to find a way to get to a single 220v 50a shore plug and was unable to find a good option. ?The issue for me is (and I'm not an electrician) that you have to split the 50a into 30a and 20a while making sure not to overload either one. ?A marine electrician was going to charge me thousands and build a custom isolation box / converter etc. ?
Eventually, I went with a single 50a that then splits to the two cables. ?There is a risk that I could overload either of the circuits but that I am willing to live with that. Both have breakers, so I would need multiple failures. ? I also found that living with 220v/50a EU power in the states has not been an issue. ?I am actually drawing 208v/60a shore power. ?The only thing that doesn't work is the washer/dryer. ?But we use the marina one most of the time, or I can fire up the generator if necessary. ?The only other occasional issue is with the salon A/C. ?I am on an end tie, so frequently only get about 203 or 204v to the boat. ?The larger salon A/C will occasionally shut off for low voltage. ?But a quick reset of the on/off button and we are back in business. ? I have 2 500w inverters that I bought off of amazon in the salon and galley. ?One is dedicated to tv/cable, internet etc. ?The other handles any kitchen appliances that are 110v exclusively. ?We have purchased a few 220v EU plugged appliances that require higher draw and those work great as well. -- Stuart S/V Rum Away 2017 Lagoon 450S #33 |
Salon Door lock frame broken
The problem is inside the edge track where the locking mechanism is. ?See attached pics. ?The actual door metal has broken around the hole that the lock sits in. ?The problem is that its the metal that the screw that holds the lock in place screws into. ?So the lock is now "flopping" around inside the door, held in place only by 1 screw and the internal bar that comes down from the handle. ?The other problem is the metal around the remaining screw is cracking, and I am sure will fail soon. ?
The obvious fix, since its the door itself that has failed is to replace the door. ?Not something that I am looking forward to doing. ?I am trying to determine if I can fabricate a thing piece of metal with the proper cutout for the lock to overlay over the area. ?It would spread the stress out over a greater area. ?But I'm not sure if the lock screws are long enough to accommodate the extra length needed to extend to the new plate. ? Any thoughts, suggestions, etc? ?Has anyone had this issue? ?And anyone have any idea who makes the actual door? Thanks, Stuart -- Stuart S/V Rum Away 2017 Lagoon 450S #33 |

Jeff, You may want to get the opinion of a marine electrician because the wiring required for 220v is significantly smaller in gauge than that required for 110v. You may need to rewire your boat on top of replacing your inverter and shore power cable. On Fri, Jun 29, 2018 at 6:45 AM Jeff Burnes <jeff@...> wrote: We have a 2009 Lagoon 440 - 220 v & 30amps. Re: Lagoon 380 Electrical Wiring Diagram
开云体育I can’t resist. ? This is old news as many of us have been seeking the holy grail since we got our boats. ? I was told a long time ago by the Lagoon America manager that the diagram would not be released because it is proprietary information. ??An American tech in France Lagoon told me he would get it, but nothing ever came of it.? You are correct that Lagoon cannot make a boat without one.? I can’t imagine what is secret about electricity. ? The only thing I can say about our 440 (purchased new) is that all of the wiring is numbered and can be traced by the numbers.? I have spent many hours tracking down wires for one reason or another. ? Best of luck. ? Walt 2006 440 #121 Joy Of Tahoe Tracys Landing, Maryland |

I am looking for information on 2007 L420 bow sprit.? We do not have one and are interested to know more about the installation.??
There is a round metal plate that is integral to the head stay where they sprit appears to attach.? Does the sprit go through the gelcoat and be secured in the center alma?? I haven't seen any type of bobstay ( or the cat equivalent on other installs, but I also haven't seen one close up.?? Any insite on how to properly retro fit one would be appreciated.? Unfortunately, I have found out it supposedly doesn't exist. I have a 2015 which I have spent many hours doing electrical work on. I asked my dealer for it,? he asked his tech contact at lagoon,? who said it doesn't exist.? I don't know how they can build boats
without it.? Maybe it just doesn't in pdf form.
If someone can get this,? it would be fantastic.
