Birthday greetings
Thanks so much for all the birthday wishes. I celebrated on Sunday with my family at my daughter¡¯s house. They served a filet mignon dinner which was out of this world. I like my steak rare which I know goes against one of the commandments for Crohn¡¯s folks. ¡°Thou shalt not eat rare meat!¡± Well, I thought I might get away with it since the steak was so tender--you can guess the end of this story. But, being with family on Sunday was great and I enjoyed every minute. 80 and counting! Love to all, Linda

Pete's Trip to Barcelona, Sevilla and Roma
Hello all. I've returned from a very interesting 9 days in Europe. I somehow managed to pack in some light civil war while in Barcelona, unseasonably hot weather in Sevilla which led to a health scare in Italy, ending with some good old fashioned gout. So pretty mild as far as Ruggieri vacations go. Steph and I flew out of Philadelphia, arriving in Barcelona on a historic Sunday when Catalonia was having an independence vote to secede away from Spain. As we walked around town we saw lots of Federal police and State police all prepared for things to go bad, but we really had no issues. The few demonstrations we saw, we just walked the other way and minded our own business. Barcelona is definitely a beautiful City, but frankly if you don't like seafood - their food is terrible. They have an unhealthy obsession with ham, and you'd be hard pressed to find any vegetables on any menu, and beer seems to be the only thing you drink there. Our next stop was Sevilla where it was 95 degrees. Silly, ridiculously hot. We now understand the purpose of the siesta as it is just painful to be out between 2pm and 6pm. Once the sun sets it is magically nice out though. We ran into Carol Basilio, Class of 86 KHS, who moved there to learn Flamenco. She gave us a tour of Sevilla and on our last night we went to see her perform in a intimate performance in a local art studio. It was fun and we were out until 1am. Not good because we had a car coming at 4am to take us to the airport for Rome. Bright and early we were on our plane to Rome. I was severely dehydrated and exhausted and our flights (seville to madrid and madrid to rome) did not offer beverage service. Once we got to Rome we immediately went out to see some sights like the Spanish Steps, Trevi Fountain, Piazza Navona and the Pantheon where I apparently had a grand mal seizure. That's new. I never had one of those before and I do not recommend it. I woke up in a hospital near the Vatican in the emergency room. After 8 hours of IV fluids and against medical advice I checked myself out. They hospital wanted to keep me over night but I know my body and I just did too much on too little water and sleep. Steph is the responsible one, but she even agreed with my decision of flight when after visiting two separate bathrooms in the hospital and not finding any hand soap in either... she was a little put off. Bonus fun: The ambulance crew had to cut my shirt off for some reason, so I was now shirtless. Never fear, my fraternity drinking skills came through as I made a toga out of my sheet and walked out of the Roman hospital in toga like a boss. The remaining two days in Rome were much more uneventful. I stayed hydrated and didn't overdo it in the heat. We did find a lot of good food however which gave me gout in my big toe upon returning to Philadelphia. I visited my family doctor yesterday who isn't concerned about the seizure. I see my doctors at UPENN tomorrow for my regular 2 month visit, and they might refer me to a neurologist, but my CT scan from Rome didn't show anything abnormal so we all think it was just dehydration/heat-stroke. That's about it. I really want go go back and see the Italian countryside and meet our family. I'm not a huge fan of cities and would prefer a more relaxed vacation, so if anyone is planning on visiting Terramo in the future let me know, I'd love to go. I'll be sure to stay hydrated. :) pete

Twitter request 4
Hey folks, I just received a twitter request text from @rugg101 for them to follow me. I have no idea who that might be. I tried twitter for about two days and abandoned it. Like Facebook, Instagram and probably some other social media outlets, I signed up, got bored and never went back. I'm sure I'm still linked in but don't expect me to ever respond. It's me. Im trying to figure out if I'm a recovering Luddite or just one in training. If you don't know what a Luddite is, call me, or ask Siri, whoever she is... Steve Ruggieri 414-630-2558

Thank You. 3
Thank all of you for your calls, cards, and love that you sent me. The decision I had to make to let Eapen go in dignity was the hardest thing I have ever done but there was no choice. He was not coming back, even with 100 per cent oxygen being pumped into him he was struggling to breath and that could continue until his body finally gave up. I could go into more detail but reliving that moment only makes my grief more intensive. I miss him terribly..after almost 46 years together with no children to cause us any problems we were completely devoted to each other. Keep in touch with me. Your thoughts and prayers are appreciated and the family love we all share is a great comfort to me. Love to all, Lonie

I will not have anything to do with Facebook. Sorry if that confounds things, but I'm a stubborn Ruggieri that will quit before I join that nonsense Steve Ruggieri 414-630-2558
