Mushroom flies, red wine and cool pix

Recently in conversation with some friends the topic of Kennett Square came up. One item was the ubiquitous mushroom fly. Has modern mushroom growing technology had an impact on reducing their population?

I’m curious, whenever I am about to have red wine I prefer to drink it in a short glass as opposed to a stemmed glass. Of course, if I’m out at some fancy restaurant I will bend to a stemmed glass. But for most consumption it’s the short one. Is that just me? Could I have been indoctrinated by my Italian American early influences? What’s your preference?

My local library has a device that permits me to transfer the 8mm rolls of film to digital. Somehow I inherited almost 30 tapes that run about 3 minutes with no sound. The few tapes I’ve run are very degraded to the point of hurting my eyes watching. These films are in the postage boxes they came back to dad after processing. The screenshots I took on my computer I’m adding?below has a postage meter date of June 25, 1954 with handwriting on it saying Bob Blake’s wedding. Anyone know who he was? If the date stamp was close to the wedding date, at 2 months, where the hell was I?

Ad and Mim looking so grand! Pretty and handsome.

Know nothing about those pesky flies. Luckily they don’t bite.

Bob Blake is ringing a bell softly. I think he was a friend of Mim’s in D.C. If only Lonie were here . . .

I’m with you on the stemless wine glass—it just tastes better!

And your parents look amazing here. Like movie stars.

I live in Kennett. ?Funny you should mention mushroom flies. ?Right now we just happen to have a ton of gnats, but I’m not sure they come from the mushroom industry. ?It is the first time in two years that they have been a problem in our apartments.

I don't know about the rest of you, but I like both red and white wine in stemmed glasses. ?Doesn’t seem like wine otherwise. ?However, it is a pain in the neck to wash the stemmed glasses.

Good looking couple in the pix! ?But I don’t remember a Bob Blake.

Flies not as bad as “no- see -ems” in VT. They fly right into your eyes.
I remember a Blake. ?But not Bob. ? Are you sure it was Bob? George?
I went with Lonie to New York with him. He took us sightseeing.
It was the first time I had ever crossed the George Washington Bridge. ?He knew the city well. Maybe he?
had lived there or in close proximity at one time. Dorothy, did you go with us??
I don’t like wine. ?However, I love ?well water with lots of ice in fine crystal stemware.

Mim was all my heroes. Robert Jordan, Fredrick Henry, Atticus Finch.?

I’ve been trying to remember. ?You and I were in NY with Lonie to see shows. ?I have a vague memory of being there another time, but I’m not sure. ?You remember these things better than I do.
