Hey Pete,

In case no one else tells you, it's best to grab any sleep you can on flight to Spain. Once there do not take a nap. ?Try to stay awake until it's bedtime there. Your body will adjust quicker to time zone changes. ?Enjoy. Sounds like a great trip.

Your Spanish should help a lot in Italy, but you will pick up some Italian along the way. "Dov'e?" (where is) will be useful.

Give us an account when your return.

Steph and I just booked our short 10 day Italy/Spain trip. We're departing Philadelphia on 9/30 at 7pm, arriving in Barcelona the next morning. We'll be staying 2 nights in Barcelona at the Pullman Barcelona Skipper hotel. Next is a travel by rail to Seville where we'll stay 3 nights at NH Collection Sevilla. A short 1 hour flight to Madrid, then another short one to Rome and there we'll be staying 3 nights at Hotel Ariston. This only cost $4000 total for 2 people. Crazy. Bumping up to 1st class would be double the price so I'll just drink a lot on the trans-continental flights.?

I received the phrase book from Elaine. Thank you. I've also downloaded some language videos on You Tube but all of the Italian words are so close to Spanish that I already speak it might be hopeless and I'll stick to English and Spanish.

Communication on trip

Pete. Spanish, English, Italian..... no problem. Many Italian clerks, waiters, etc love to practice their English and tourists like to practice their Italian. Result? All parties have a good laugh.

Pete's September plans

Hi Pete. Sounds good to me . Happy you are going on a guided tour. I wish I could make another trip to Italy. If this a duplicate just ignore the other one. I can't seem to use my smartphone very well. So I am using my iPad even for texting.
On my smartphone I signed up for 200 minutes. Didn't realize how fast I would use them. If I go over that amount they put me on a different level and the cost goes up. On my iPad with WiFi I am not limited and there is no extra charge.

Hope you and Elaine can meet in Rome. And give us a report and pictures of you and Stephanie enjoying the sites.

Re: Rome, Barcelona and Seville

Pete

On my first trip to Italy I was privileged to have Both Lonie and Elaine as my guides.
I learned so much and ?we managed to navigate the countryside in our rental car. The cities and toll roads were a bit more challenging! We had a blast!

When Drue and I toured Italy we rented a car and saw many of the cities and towns I saw with Lonie and Elaine but we had 3 weeks of travel so we covered a lot more territory.
This fall we took a guided tour of Sicily and the south of Italy. ?There were 35 people in our group and it was fantastic ! ?I loved not having to plan every move or think about timing ,meals ,routes and accommodation etc. ?
Elaine's best advice was not to go during tourist season. Who wants to deal with crowds or lines

Yeah, Pete. ?I agree with Steve and ?Elaine. ? Teramo is not the easiest place to get to by public transportation, even driving a rented car can be tricky. Leaving your group would cause a lot of problems. ?I do think when one goes to foreign countries for the first time, especially for 10 days, a guided tour is the best way to go so you don't miss important places and info. ?Keep me informed. ?And I am happy to assume your medical problems are stable which enables you to go. ?Aunt Lonie

It's all fantastic! Rome, the eternal city. Big statue of Christopher Columbus by the port in Barcelona (best I've seen). And, yeah, see the opera while you're in Seville. It's funny.
