The Music Center's 2025 Teaching Artist Training
Dear Artists and Arts Educators, The Music Center is proud to again offer its renowned Teaching Artist Training program in 2025. The updated course includes new best practices and is designed to offer in-person sessions with some optional virtual support sessions. Participants will focus on lesson design and gain strategies to facilitate arts learning in schools and community settings, drawing from their own artistic strengths. Guided by Music Center teaching artists Madeleine Dahm (theatre), Andrew Grueschow (music), Lynn Okimura (visual arts & media arts) and Chisa Yamaguchi (dance/movement), this course also features independent study components and individual coaching by a mentor. This 10-week session provides participants with the skills and knowledge to begin or refine their work as teaching artists in K-12 settings as well as various community settings. It is critically important for us to document the diverse firsthand accounts of these elders while they are still alive to tell them. DESCRIPTION OUTWORDS seeks an experienced, freelance Podcast Co-Host excited by, and dedicated to, the organization¡¯s mission, vision, and core values. We're looking for a self-motivated, independent worker with outstanding organizational and communication skills. The Podcast Co-Host works directly with the OUTWORDS Communications Director to co-host a series of six 30-minute podcasts focused on transgender, gender non-conforming, and intersex (TGI) legislation and politics in California. Each of the six episodes will include a standalone conversation between two co-hosts and 1-2 LGBTQ+ elders from The Outwords Archive. The interviews/conversations will focus on trans healthcare legislation, trans immigration law, trans BIPOC incarceration, trans representation in the legal system, intersex law, and two-spirit identity as a legal and political issue. This season¡¯s theme is ¡°Find Your Way Home¡± - After 22 seasons of accepting submissions from playwrights worldwide, Little Fish Theatre is celebrating the creativity and diversity of voices from our own backyard ¨C in California! California playwrights (residing in CA) are invited to submit (1) original short one-act play exploring the theme of Home ¡ªwhatever that means to you. Whether it¡¯s a place, a person, a memory, or a dream, we want to see your unique take on the journey of finding, losing, or redefining ¡°home¡±. Submission Guidelines: Only ONE play may be submitted per playwright. There is no submission fee. Submissions are open from Oct 10 ¨C 24, 2024. Submission deadline is October 24, 2024. Everything comes at a price. The future of fashion is in our hands. Where Home Never Was Filmmakers: Rain Hebert (16), Arielle Busby (15), Aline Argueta (16)"Where Home Never Was" tells the story of a daughter, Arielle Busby, and her mother whose lives are upended by homelessness. As mother and daughter confront the systemic barriers and personal challenges of homelessness, their story unfolds with raw honesty and emotional depth. Words I Can¡¯t Forget Filmmakers: Yaretzi Pineda (17), Anabella Hernandez Trujillo (16), Cat Kennedy (17), Izzy Medina (17)¡°Words I Can¡¯t Forget¡± follows multiple women's experiences of being criticized on social media and in their own communities, and how this affects their personal and professional aspirations. Throughout the film, women reflect on their personal stories and take solace in the stories of others. The event will begin at 7:30pm and conclude at 9:00pm, following the Filmmaker Q&A and a dessert reception. The Burbank Parks and Recreation Department, in collaboration with the Burbank Cultural Arts Commission, is pleased to announce the second year of the Community Arts Grant Program designed to support local artists and non-profit arts organizations and actively engage Burbank residents with diverse and outstanding cultural arts projects. Grants from $1,000 - $5,000 are available for artists and non-profit art organizations to support visual and performing arts projects that encourage and provide access to the arts for all community members. Eligible applications and projects should: - - Expand public access to the arts and build awareness and appreciation for the art form presented. - - Educate, entertain, and inspire participants and thoughtfully engage residents, businesses, artists, and visitors. - - Offer a wider range of perspectives and reflect our community's rich cultural diversity. This opportunity is open to individual professional artists and non-profit arts organizations based in Los Angeles County. Proposed projects must be completed in the City of Burbank and directly serve Burbank residents, businesses, and visitors. Feedback from applicants, grantees, and the community will continue to inform decisions about the design and potential growth of the grants program in future years. The deadline to apply is Tuesday, Nov. 19th. Grant workshops will be held on October 17 and October 30.
