Studio: Creative Futures is for high school juniors and seniors who are interested in offstage jobs in the entertainment and performing arts industries. This free four-day program helps build the power skills (soft skills) needed to succeed in the workplace. The workshops combine real-life scenarios, videos, interactive activities along with a collaborative and creative final project all geared to strengthen power skills. The City of Palmdale is accepting applications for stair murals to be installed at Pelona Vista Park. This exciting art initiative will transform the park’s two staircases leading to the north fields into visual expressions of the project’s themes of health, wellness, sportsmanship and community pride.

With an all-inclusive budget of $10,500, the grant will cover all the necessary expenses, including the artist’s fee, paint supplies and equipment rentals. Included in the budget, the selected artist will receive a $450 stipend to create a color sketch or digital image of the proposed artwork to scale.

Proposals must align with the project’s objectives, ensuring the artwork is family-friendly. The City’s public Art Commission will evaluate and select submissions that best meet the objectives of this project.

Leigh Henderson has been writing grants for non-profit arts organizations for nearly 20 years. From 2016 to 2022, she served as the Managing Director of Teatro Visión, San José’s Chicanx/Latinx theater company. During her tenure, she raised more than $1.5 million in government and foundation grants for the organization. As a result, Teatro Visión more than doubled its annual budget, programming, and audiences. She also offers grant writing and other non-profit consulting services to numerous community-focused arts nonprofits throughout the Bay Area and the state of California. Leigh is also a practicing theatrical designer whose work has been seen on stages throughout the Bay Area, Wisconsin, Colorado, New York City, and at the prestigious Prague Quadrennial of Performance Design and Space and a cake artist who has appeared on multiple shows on the Food Network. She holds a BFA in Drama from Carnegie Mellon University and an MBA in Arts Administration and a PhD in Interdisciplinary Theater Studies from the University of Wisconsin �� Madison. Leigh currently teaches in the Theatre Arts Department at Foothill College.

The Los Angeles County Department of Arts and Culture and THE OFFICE Performing Arts + Film are excited to announce an open call for artists to apply to Artists At Work (AAW), a national workforce resilience program designed to support artists and their communities through artistic civic engagement.

Led by THE OFFICE and implemented in partnership with Arts and Culture, this new opportunity will provide salaried employment for four artists for an 18-month term (June 1, 2025 - November 30, 2026) to support them in their artistic practice and in working collaboratively with community members and organizational partners to address local needs in Los Angeles County.

In Los Angeles County, artists will focus on the impact area: Recovery and Resilience. Two artists will partner with local nonprofit organizations in areas recovering from the devastating 2025 wildfires, where they will focus on supporting and strengthening community identity, cultural preservation, and civic memory. One artist will partner with a local nonprofit to explore arts-based environmental sustainability practices that contribute to community climate resiliency. And, one artist will partner with a local nonprofit to explore the role of the arts in health and wellbeing at the individual and community level.

Arts Education Intern (Getty Marrow Undergraduate Internship Program)

The artworxLA Arts Education Internship is an invaluable experience in museum education, especially for those interested in school, teen, and outreach programs. The Arts Education intern will provide essential support in preparing for 2025��26 classroom programming, including:

Assisting in updating the Teaching Artist Handbook, the principal document articulating artworxLA’s philosophy and methodology.
Assisting with the organization of the 2025 Summer Teaching Institute for Teaching Artists and classroom teachers.
Compiling research on two museum exhibition initiatives.
Assisting with reporting on program evaluation projects.

Reporting to the Director of School and Teaching Artist Programs, the Arts Education intern will receive training in hands-on experiences in object- and inquiry-based learning. The internship is an excellent introduction to facilitating relevance and meaning for specific audiences, especially alternative education youth, by tailoring museum exhibition content through gallery and classroom explorations.

While these internships are intended for students from backgrounds underrepresented in museums and visual arts professions, eligible candidates from all backgrounds may be considered. Candidates shall have the opportunity to demonstrate their interest in museums and visual arts professions and how they might add diverse and underrepresented perspectives, which can include—among other things—socio-economic status, cultural background, physical or other disability, geographical origin, and/or any other life experiences.

Terms of the Internship

Applicants must be available to report to work in person for a hybrid format. The Getty Marrow Undergraduate Internship at artworxLA is full-time, 40 hours per week, 10am��6pm, for a consecutive ten-week period between June 16–August 22, 2025. The application will be open until the position is filled, and the intern will be selected before May 16, 2025. Gross pay for the internship is $7,150.

Getty Marrow Undergraduate Interns must be currently enrolled as a full-time undergraduate in either a bachelor’s degree program or an associate’s degree program. Students must have completed at least one semester or two quarters of college by June. Students who graduated the semester or quarter immediately before the internship begins are also eligible. (Students who are enrolled in a second BA or BS program are not eligible.) Candidates must attend college in or be a permanent resident of LA County; and be a United States citizen or permanent resident (non-citizen authorized to live and work in the United States on a permanent basis; also known as a "green card" holder). Students with DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrival) status valid through the internship period are also eligible.

Candidates are not eligible if they have previously served as Getty Marrow Undergraduate Intern at artworxLA; have received a prior BA, BS, or higher degree. For more information about the Getty Marrow Undergraduate Internship program, please click here.

The San Pedro Waterfront Arts District has received a grant from the Port of Los Angeles Community Grant Program to create and install a 650 square foot artist designed crosswalk in front of the Maritime Museum at 6th and Harbor as a demonstration site. The proposed design must stay within the existing crosswalk area.

Artists are invited to submit their qualifications, examples of their work and an illustrative concept sketch, to be painted and executed by a paving company. The theme of the proposed crosswalk design should include the following elements:

History of San Pedro as a maritime port
Biodiversity of our marine environment and local resident’s stories
Variety of San Pedro’s arts and culture
Color pallet is limited to 4 large blocks of color, examples can be viewed at the links below or here

Your qualifications will be evaluated and scored by a Design Advisory Panel of the San Pedro Waterfront Arts District, based on the following:

Artistic Quality
Technical Ability
Thematic Expression of the Crosswalk themes
Compliance with Crosswalk design specifications

SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS

Please include the following with your submission:

Artist Statement �� brief description of your work as an artist, your interest and qualifications for this public art program, as well as your experiences and approach to this project
Resume �� please send your current resume and include the artist team, if applicable.
References �� name, address, email and phone number for 3 professional references or someone who can vouch for you.
Images of at least 3 of past public art projects and/or a website highlighting your work. All image files must be in a PDF format and clearly labeled with your name, contact info and date.
Sample Concept Sketch as a full color rendering of the proposed design in a PDF format.

FEE SCHEDULE AND THE WORK:

The Arts District will award 3 artists $250 for a detailed rendering of the proposed design.

After a public selection process, the winning artist will receive $1500 for the use of the design, in a format acceptable to the paving company.

Organize your submission materials in such a way to make it easy to follow and be read by those evaluating your work.

DEADLINE:

All submissions are due on Monday, April 7, 2025 by 5pm.
The 3 finalists�� designs will be selected by Friday, April 14, 2025, and will be used in social media campaigns for community voting and feedback.
Community feedback/voting will conclude by Friday, May 9, 2025, and the selected artist will be paid $1500 in 2 installments, payable by invoice to the San Pedro Waterfront Arts District.
Submissions received after the deadline will not be considered.
The winning artist will be expected to work with the paving company to implement their design on the crosswalk.
Artist designed crosswalk to be completed and installed by the paving company by Monday, June 30, 2025.
