looking for freelance writer for spec work

Lorena Turner

Greetings...

I am looking for a writer to work with on a story having to do with Broadway
Avenue in downtown LA. Broadway Ave. is on the verge of separating even
further from its past and some of those 'links', those that connect the
present to the past are breaking everyday as deals are being brokered to
revitalize the LA's 'Historic Core', as the area is called. The project I
am looking for a writer for has to do with one of those links that will be
broken on the 28th of March.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not anti-redevelopment/revitalization/preservation,
I just see there is much to be lost in the transition, and as a photographer
my goal is to document this.

It is imperative that anyone interested contact me ASAP for a discussion on
the direction of this project and potential outlets for exposure and
publication. I am particularly interested in working with someone who is
just starting out and is interested in solidifying a name for themselves in
the area of urban development, 'street' history, or social/cultural issues
of contemporary LA. I am in a simliar nascent position, and believe that
for the write person, this opportunity I am advertising would be mutually
beneficial.

Please email me: alexyy9@.... I will respond to all emails I
receive, if you don't hear from me within a day after you reply, please
resend your message. I have been having trouble with my email account...

Thank you,

Lorena Turner

Attention: Middle Eastern and world music aficionados and
devotes of the peace process (or lack thereof)

Israeli Artist Yair Dalal Performs L.A. Concert for
Peace on March 20 with Houman Pourmehdi

Don't miss this exclusive concert at Santa Monica’s Morgan Wixon Theater.
"Yair Dalal takes you on a captivating journey," says the Jerusalem Post.

Touring Israeli world music artist Yair Dalal will perform with Iranian-born
Houman Pourmehdi on Tuesday, March 20. A portion of the proceeds from this
evening benefit the May 20 peace conference, “The Israeli/Palestinian Crisis:
New Conversations on a Pluralistic Future,” sponsored by Open Tent Middle
East Coalition (www.opentent.org).

Born of Iraqi parents, Dalal devotes his talent (oud, violin, voice) to
reinvigorating Eastern Jewish musical traditions in Israel and abolishing
ideological barriers between Jews and Arabs. He was a featured performer at
the 1994 Nobel Peace Prize Gala Concert honoring the late Israeli prime
minister Yitzhak Rabin and PLO Chairman Yassir Arafat. Dalal frequently
forms musical partnerships with international musicians of diverse ethnic
backgrounds, and appears on the forthcoming recording “One” with Omar Faruk
Tekbilek, Rabbi Haim Louk and Nabil Azzam. He refers to the Middle Eastern
music he performs as “a route of brotherhood between peoples living in the
region because peace is the most precious merchandise of all." His most
recent CD is “Perfume Road.”

A top-10 favored percussionist of world music critics, Houman Pourmehdi is a
cofounder of the Lian Ensemble and a master of daf and tombak. His Persian
and Middle Eastern repertoire includes Sufi music and a variety of world
music styles. He performed on “Syncopation” with percussive master John
Bergamo, and has recorded “Quest,” “The Name of The Beloved” and “Banquet
in the Tavern of Ruin.”

The evening begins with a reception at 7 pm featuring the art of Lidia
Shaddow (Israel/Iraq/Tunisia) and Nahid Hagigat (Iran). The concert will
begin promptly at 8 pm.

Artists Sought - Co-create artofliving.com

Frankie Lee

Dear Artists of LIFE,

Canvasing for amazingly talented artists as volunteers to help get our
website fully functional. It's pretty close, but needs people
proficient in 1) Photoshop and 2) web design to nudge it along so it can
really be serving people. Doesn't have to be the same people, but both
need handling.

Will depend, obviously, on your catching the vision, so suggest you read
about us below and also go to the site:

as decide.

We're the same folks creating the Women's Day event March 8th - The Art
of LIVING Coalition (see information below). Hope to see you there for
a gathering of the tribe.

Blessings,

Frankie Lee Slater
The Art of LIVING Coalition

................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................

The Art of LIVING

THE BASIS OF OUR WORK

The Art of LIVING (TAOL) Coalition was formally established as a
non-profit organization on April 11, 1998 [under the aegis of Social &
Environmental Entrepreneurs (SEE)] with the aim of helping individuals
to become more aware of their potential and more empowered in their
lives.

The basis of our work is grounded in 20 years in-depth exploration in
human excellence, communications, creativity, community building and how
we effect positive change. Since producing our first large event in
1996, The Art of LIVING Coalition has actively been taking the framework
of the art of living and its principles out to people in both large and
small experiential settings. This has involved an extended
multi-generational community throughout Southern California as well as
strategic alliances with individuals and organizations throughout the
planet. In the process, we have video and audiotaped our exploration of
what it means to be artists of our own lives. Five documentaries are
shot and seeking completion monies, and a global television show - The
Art of LIVING: A Mystery School for the 21st Century - is in
development.

What we’ve discovered is that people ask different questions and take
different actions than they would ordinarily when they identify
themselves as “artists of life.” In making this integral shift in
perception - from “being acted upon by life” to “becoming actively
involved in the process of living” - we develop a consciousness of
choice which enhances our lives on every level.

The mission of The Art of LIVING Coalition is to support people in
fulfilling their highest potential by becoming more active and aware
participants in their lives. We do so by establishing a context within
which individuals can understand their essential nature as creative and
providing practical tools to create the better lives and world we all
want
for ourselves, our children and our family of the earth. Through our
groundbreaking The Art of LIVING television series and Being Artists of
LIFE TV specials, video and audiotapes, art of living themed
participatory events, education and counselling, TAOLiving programs
provide models of what is working and what is possible...

? Identifying these models where they exist
? Enhancing them where they can be made better
? Creating them where deemed necessary
? and making them accessible for everyone’s benefit

Sunland-Tujunga Branch Music with Mark Humpheys

Jamie O'Halloran

TUJUNGA. On Tuesday, February 27 at 7:00 p.m., the Friends of the
Sunland-Tujunga Branch of the Los Angeles Public Library present a musical
evening with singer-songwriter Mark Humphreys. The program is part of a
monthly series during which the Friends will bring live music to the
library on fourth Tuesdays. The program is free and all are welcome.

Humphreys is a singer-songwriter in the folk tradition whose recordings and
performances have won critical acclaim. Humphreys, who will be accompanied
by guitarist John-Michael Kaye, has long been one of the most popular
singer-songwriters on L.A.'s accoustic music scene. "As with all good folk
singers," writes Los Angeles Times columnist Al Martinez, "Humphreys' music
tells stories…"

Humphreys' fourth, and most recent, album, "Songs at the Moon", released on
his Trough Records label, follows the successful "A Lust and a Longing",
"Angelenos" and "Leap Day." Since 1995 Mark has devoted all of his time and
energy to music-writing, performing, touring across the country and
producing albums for other artists.
