WS8248 sensor
2
Does anyone have any experience troubleshooting and fixing LaCrosse sensors? I have a WS8248 clock that I love. Recently the sensor (TX141) stopped working or at least stopped getting recognized by the WS8248 and also the SkyScan 87310 (a Lacrosse product). LaCrosse says the current sensor that works with both of them is a TX6U. The SkyScan 87310 came with a TX6U remote sensor originally (about 15 years ago). The WS8248 came with a TX141. For a day or two the LaCrosse site said a TX141V2 would work but none available (and no TX6U either). I bought a TX141V4 from LaCrosse but it does not get recognized. The SkyScan 87310 and the WS8248 are both now using the same TX6U that came with the Skyscan and that sensor was consistently 5 degrees low always but 2 weeks ago that changed and now it is 20 degrees Fahrenheit low. LaCrosse tells me to just buy a new clock because they offer no replacement sensors for either of my clocks. LaCrosse does not offer a large digit atomic clock that also includes indoor and outdoor temperatures like these do. They only include either indoor or outdoor but with humidity. Not sure why the eliminated the indoor temp on clocks with remote sensors but they did. For that reason I am looking for help in fixing my TX141 sensor. The LED flashes every 30 seconds or so to indicate it is trying but I do not know if it is really still transmitting on 433mhz or if the transmitter is not working. Also LaCrosse gives no information about them so I can not find out what the sensor is that they used and fix the TX6U and/or the TX141. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you. Jim Pruitt

Sensors from WS2350 connected to WS2307
Hello everybody, I have a Technoline WS2350 installed for more than 8 years connected to OpenWrt router running Open2300 software. For some reason, this communication is not working anymore, neither to PC or laptop, with different adapters USB to Serial(RS232) I tried and no positive results. I bought a new Technoline WS2307, it is mandatory to change also the sensors? Connectors are looking the same, except the wind speed one. Thank you!

Which USB-RS232 works with WS8610?
Hi All, I recently asked a question in relation to the WS8610 that I have been playing around with since I discovered it recently. I was looking at my Wunderground account for something else and thought it might be fun to revive my plan to start a weather station. I started having some issues with my USB-RS232 device and I thought it might be worth sharing some progress. Initially when things didn't work with my old UC-232A I started to wonder if my pinout for the weather station was correct. I am now using: RJ12 - D_SUB9 1 - 5 2 - 3 3 - 4 4 - 7 5 - 6 6 - 8 I made a loopback cable for testing the UC232A and found to my surprise that it wasn't working. I purchased a new device from Ebay and tried. It was based on the ch341 chip and when plugged in I receive the following message: ch341-uart converter now attached to ttyUSB0 When I type characters their HEX equivalents can be viewed in minicom or cutecom but I can't seem to get keyboard characters back when I type those characters. I decided the serial device might be part of the problem with the WS8610 and decided to replace it with a PL2303 device. When I plug this and type dmesg | grep 'tty' it shows the familiar: pl2303 converter now attached to ttyUSB0 It also allows me to communicate with the WS8610! I entered the following: ./log8610 datafile.txt open8610.conf and I got this response: open_weatherstation read_safe Cannot get count of outdoor sensors I don't have any outdoor sensors attached to my WS8610 at the moment. (Like another group member I think I sold the one I had with my last house) I would like to get myself a replacement outdoor sensor but can they still be bought? Also why would the failure to get the outdoor sensors count stop me reading data out? There is plenty of data on the device but the logfile appears to be empty.. It would be great to know if anyone has had the same experience.. ?

8610 serial cable, pins/colors ok?
10
since i cannot get open8610 to work, i first tested my serial port connecting rx and tx and sending a few characters.. and that worked. then measured the original 8610 cable and got these results (colors on rj-11): pin 4 blue pin 5 black pin 7 brown pin 8 white this does not at all match the serial_cable_pinout.txt in the downloads. is my cable broken or is this ok for 8610s?

WS2307 stopped sending data to linux server
Hi All! First of all thanks for joining. ;) I have a WS2307 Weather Station long tiome ago using under Ubuntu Linux server. A few days ago after a power outage and server reboor it had stopped getting data from the WS2307. I tried a lot of thing, but nothing helped. Seems that fetch2300 cannot get data from station. When i start it tries to connect and its runnning a lot of time. While running fetch2300 i see this: root@mcll:~# lsof /dev/ttyS* COMMAND???????????? PID USER?????? FD?????? [LacrosseWS] [LacorsseWS] CPU for wind gauge WS2300-15
Search the group's message archive, wind gauge problems have been reported/solved before. To vague recollection, I think most commonly reed switch issues. Broadly speaking, La Crosse ws circuitry is pretty crude, I doubt that the wind gauge has a "CPU" per se. ? ?

[LacorsseWS] CPU for wind gauge WS2300-15
Hi, Does anyone knows what CPU is used in the WS2300-15 wind gauge. I have that one with the wind turbine / windmill (not with the spoons). My wind gauge does not send data to the transmitter. Outdoor temperature, humidity and rainfall measurements works fine. I already double checked everything else but it seems to be the CPU which fails. Thanks in advance.

WS3600 on WS2800
Hi All. Having a problem with sensors on my WS2800, so would like to know if I could use parts from a WS3600 to check if the sensors are ok, or faulty. Thanks Robert

TX20

Hi, Good information on the TX20 here: john.geek.nz - 38911 Basic Bytes Free john.geek.nz - 38911 Basic Bytes Free I’ve been wanting to build a weather station, complete with the Geiger counter I’ve been working on. View on www.john.geek.nz Preview by Yahoo The 6th picture shows the wind speed sensor, it is a coil, also mentioned in the comments below the picture. The measurement of 320ohms resistance is rather high for a coil like the picture shows. It either means it has many turns of extremely thin wire OR possibly the wire is (partially) broken. Unfortunately I see no data for this component (inductance (mH), resistance (ohm), size (mm)) Best regards Thorhallur Ragnarsson

[LacrosseWS] Re: TX20
I know nothing about these sensors and their internal workings, but, would this help? https://www.argentdata.com/files/80422_datasheet.pdf If it’s a similar device, it may allow you to diagnose the switch or resistor that is at fault. Also, as a general rule, check ALL the soldering. Exposure to temperature can crack off the solder. Cheers Joe B.

sensor
That may be a "Hall effect" sensor, they were used in car ignition working like mechanical points. wombat

TX20

My WS2300 weather station has stopped sending wind speed . I am useing the TX20 Wind Sensor (cups). This sensor has now been dismantled for repair and preliminary checks would indicate that the cylindrical reed relay has failed. Does anyone know this part numberand where I might obtain a replacement. Is there a circuit diagram anywhere for the TX20 ?

WS-8610U-CH "error codes" ?
Hi, I was curious about the display of RH% on my still working, but damaged, WS-8610U Wireless Data Logger base unit, and also on one of its Remotes (TX7U) T&H transmitter. When the data logger base station suddenly became stuck, indicated a “99%” reading, I just attributed it to a slowly failing unit, since the temperature readings were still OK. However, I wonder if there might be something I can fix – possibly a bad, shorted or open circuit board trace. I know that “Thermistors” can display a fixed value of resistance, when open circuited, and now wonder if the value “99” is actually an ERROR CODE NUMBER, giving a clue to what is ailing it. Odd thing, though, about the base unit T&H though. When I downloaded its log file, the base station temperature column of course was fine, but the HUMIDITY column had a few lower values (of 1” and 2 % perhaps while ramping up after initializing), then a pair of entries indicating “OFL”, and the remainder was all “99”. It almost seems like it started fine for a few samples – lasting about 2 minutes – then dropped into an OFL and 99-error codes. It did this a few more times, further down in the log file Base Unit Humidity, before it just stayed on as 99. SAMPLE Log from fridge (Base Unit) & freezer (TX7U) test: (remote was replaced with a spare “Good” one) Date & TIME BASE UNIT-Indoor Temperature FRIDGE TEMPERATURE Deg-F Indoor Humidity Outdoor Temperature 1 FREEZER TEMPERATURE DegF TX7U = Outdoor Humidity 1 TESTED FOR 9 HOURS START OF FRIDGE TEST START OF FREEZER TEST 30.03.2016 01:00 39.3 2 0.3 56 30.03.2016 02:03 39.3 2 0.3 56 30.03.2016 02:05 39.2 2 -0.7 58 30.03.2016 02:10 39.3 1 -0.4 59 30.03.2016 02:15 39.3 OFL 0.5 61 30.03.2016 02:20 39.5 OFL 1.2 62 30.03.2016 02:25 39.5 99 2.1 63 30.03.2016 02:30 39.7 99 3 64 30.03.2016 02:35 39.7 99 3.9 65 30.03.2016 02:40 39.7 99 4.6 65 30.03.2016 02:45 39.2 99 3.5 60 ETC ........... I came to this suspicion “of an Error Code being displayed”, when eventually the remote TX7U briefly flashed a similar format, “44” (error), during battery re-install, for a split second, before setting its display to “OFL”. I wonder what an 44-error might be, if indeed,it is an error code. Odd thing is that both units indicate a “double digit” ... 99 and 44 ... so they likely aren’t actual %RH values. So, my question to experts here, is whether the 99 & 44 are actually error codes, and what is their meaning? Finally, when I opened up the TX7U case, I see there are two black covered IC chips. On the remote’s PCB, the large black blob I assume to be the microprocessor, which probably is used as the temperature reading sensor, just as Intel PC processors do. Then ... is that smaller block covered tiny chip at the narrow end of the PCB (where the case has breather holes) – “the RH sensor” ... and would it be indicating 44 on open, or a short, circuit? The traces seem solid, but wonder how else to interpret the 44 code (and likewise the 99 on the base unit). Thanks for any help or clues what to check. Joe

Hi all I have a now aging Lacrosse WS8610 which uses the TX3TH sensor. Best price I can find in the UK for the sensor is around ?20? Crazy. Almost as much as I paid for the whole weather station :) My question is if anyone perhaps has one of these lying around that they no longer use?

I'm regulary using my custom WS8610 software since one year, and it works very well. It runs on win7 x64, on a pc with real serial port. Features include: dump memory, show arbitrary portions of memory, write memory, a windows service which downloads records and save them in sqlite format every x hours, plot of temperature and humidity data, detection of daylight saving time, and more... See screenshot in files section: WS8610Software.png <http://f1.grp.yahoofs.com/v1/AM-UUFL0WUMwk81WMsbjOvU1a_cfKAaZ9wcipoOw-p\ oTPsqzgN-W4ZXNswAEeJEgCrkRIgbQkvbrdxXdnEYGJfWOuTw/WS8610/WS8610Software.\ png> If ayone interested I can give source code in C#.

WS3600 Sender restarts sending after a few weeks in the corner...
I'd practically given up on my WS3600 Sender unit. It wasn't sending at all. So I pulled it down, and put it in the corner of the workroom, and there it sat for about two or three weeks. The other day I was juggling the batteries in my hand and just for somewhere to put them, I stuck them back in the sender case. To my utter amazement, it started working again, and has done now for two or three weeks. Only thing is ... the Humidity sensor isn't sending. So I have no humidity. Not a problem, as all of the rest of the data is there. As I am running an Arduino WeatherShield receiver with a BP180 Pressure/Temp/Altitude sender, and sending it to Weather Display, I am now putting a DHT11 Humidity and Temperature sensor on to it. It can replace the Humidity, and I'll use the temperature as Indoor temperature. Or not. I don't use the Altitude, as I can't get an intelligent reading from it, even for height above sea level. I really must buy a spare WS3600 Transmitter too. (TX13) I can pick one up still for around 35 Euros. If anyone is interested in the Arduino sketches and a bit of other info, see my website http://www.chalmers.com.au Anyone else running a WS3600 and Arduino ? See the poll...
