LABIRD ¡ª I¡¯m trying to fill another boat trip for Sat. Oct. 19.
Pelagic trips this late are almost nonexistent so I have no idea what we¡¯ll find out there. An October trip out of Texas had a Manx Shearwater on 10 Oct. 2015, and one was found sick at Port Aransas last year on 26 Oct.. Those birds almost certainly passed through LA waters. So that¡¯s my current ¡°fantasy¡± bird. In second place is Red Phalarope, for which 3 of 4 of Louisiana¡¯s records are from October, and there is a fairly nice scattering of October records all over the eastern USA, including on a few Atlantic pelagic trips.
