TS-890 and LA-1K

Im anxiously awaiting arrival of my LA-1k to match with my HF-Auto and tS-890.? Any words of wisdom as far as setup/operation/etc?? I'm curious how QSY works...How does one ensure the HF-AUtO does its thing first, then the LA-1K kicks in?? All automatically?? Programmable delays?
Thanks!
Ken, AC0DQ

Transceiver to LA1K to HF AUTO to antenna. With just a minimum of a PTT cable. Put the LA1K in stby, tune up, LA1K is RF sensing so its ready to go at that point. Is that what you are asking?

Thanks!? So...put amp to standby for each QSY?? Was hoping there would be less button pushing since I'm old and lazy, hi hi.

Well for sure for each band change of course. Within the band it depends, if the LA1K doesnt like the SWR it will go into bypass anyway. It is very sensitive and has protected itself from me many times :) After a couple years with the combo of LA1K and HF Auto I usually know when to put the amp in standby for a QSY. If you use a band data cable between the amp and the radio it will automatically go into standby when you change bands on the radio without keying (with the latest firmware 1.08S).

Slightly off topic but of interest…. The PALSAR LA-1K Quickstart Guide makes mention of the deployment of a “True Peak Reading Wattmeter for Drive Level Indication”. ?It just so happens, I have a really nice Palstar PM2000A wattmeter hanging around doing nothing... ?

So here is the question… just where in the string of transmit components, should this peak reading wattmeter be inserted?

A) Between the Transceiver (YaseuFTdx101MP)?and the LA-1K?

B) Between the LA-1K and the HF-Auto?

C) Between the HF-Auto and the Antenna?

Below is a screen capture of the verbiage that is in the Palstar LA-1K Quickstart Guide.

BTW I truly enjoy making Coax jumpers and this offers me a reason to craft at least one more… 8-)

Thanks

Since you are trying to measure drive, you would place the peak-reading meter between the transceiver and the amp.
