NOT MANY POSTS

I've come to the conclusion that the LA-1K must be a damn good amp due to the fact there are not many posts in this group!

There were more posts in the past, but Firmware 1.08S is quite stable and has apparently fixed earlier issues.

I use mine nightly at full output on CW traffic nets in Direct Keying mode, with full break-in through a QSK-2500 electronic T/R switch, and with automatic band-switching through a band-data line.? Supply voltage is 240v.

Pure joy.

Kent, K9ZTV, so glad you mentioned "Firmware 1.08S" in your post.? I'm still looking forward to use the "PROGRAM UPDATES" port located in the front panel of my LA-1K.

Rick, VE3PP, pleased be advised in my 7-Jun-2023 post /g/la1k/message/1316 I shared with this group I'd brought to Mark Ward's attention (Palstar's technician) that the LA-1K would put a licensed amateur radio operator solely at risks of violating FCC rules and regulations when making 60M/30M over-the-air transmissions (regardless of permissible power output levels) with the LA-1K in its present configuration.

In his reply to my said email notification, Mr. Ward advised me on 1 June 2023, stating "I will forward your comments to Paul on the separate band annunciators for 30M/60M.? This would be a display change, with antenna switching capability."

As of this writing (nearly a year later!!) Palstar still hasn't released the expected firmware update to address the issues.? As the saying goes.. hurry up and wait, my friend.

Except for one person who likes to complain about everything, you will find most owners are quite happy with their LA-1K.? I initially had one issue where the thermal paste under the final was put on to thick, and oozed out and caused a flash pf blue that lit up the room when I keyed down.? I immediately unkeyed, unplugged the amp and called Palstar.?? They said I could clean around the final to remove the extra paste and test it, and if I discovered damage, to send them the unit back for repair.? Fortunately, I was easily able to clean it off and there was no damage done to the contacts or solder points, and its been going good for two years now. ? Very well built amp, with excellent support for actual issues.

I love all my Palstar products and the info i glean from this group. Fot best results, I have found if the response is from "Ray", skip over it. Some people have an unremovable chip on their shoulder if they have ANY problem with a product.?

Why would I worry about the lack of band selection for 60 and 30 meters when power output it limited on those bands?

I read the online brochure for the amp before I bought it and knew those bands were not covered.

Key word, READ.

Rick,

If this the online brochure you read, that resulted in you knowing "those bands were not covered" sir?

Was that brochure all the research done before dropping $3k on the
amplifier?

No,? I checked out the Palstar videos and read the reviews for the amp on Eham.

Edited

I did plenty of research before I bough the amp. Same thing I do before I buy any new piece of amateur radio equipment.

Plus I had joined this group before I bought it and read through the posts.

And really, why are yo concerned? It's not your money I spent buying the amp.

My question was directed at KJ5MI who posted the link to the brochure.
He appears to imply the brochure mislead him into purchasing the
amplifier.

My apologies to Rick VE3PP for the confusion.

Friz, N4JVP,
My bad.? In my 24-Apr-2024 post /g/la1k/message/1528 there's a typo; instead of the word "Is" I put "If" in my question for Rick, VE3PP, pertaining to his 23-Apr-2024 post /g/la1k/message/1527 in which Rick, VE3PP, stated "I read the online brochure for the amp before I bought it and knew those bands were not covered."

Rick, VE3PP,
So sorry about the typo in my original post /g/la1k/message/1528 addressed to you... Now, with respect to your 23-Apr-2024 post /g/la1k/message/1527 --? Is this the online brochure you read, that resulted in you knowing "those bands were not covered" sir?

Well the brochure is just that, a brochure.

I read it, I downloaded the manual, I watched videos and also check out reviews on Eham before purchasing my LA-1K.

It amazes me how some guys do not do any research before buying equipment. Lord knows there are enough videos on YouTube on radios etc etc to go watch before making a decision.

Purchasing equipment these days is much easier than when I started in the hobby 32 years ago!

Me too and BTW it works fine on 30 meters. I us it a lot on FT8. 12 watts in 100 watts out. Both radio and amp are just cruising.

Ok, Rick, VE3PP, I take that to mean - Yes - this is the online brochure you read, that resulted in you knowing "those bands were not covered."

Said LA-1K online brochure states "Frequency Range: 1.8 to 54 MHz" -- suggesting that the amplifier in question has a continuous frequency coverage from 1.8 MHz to 54 MHz -- it covers everything HF + 6M, even CB!

Sir, one can certainly interpret any given written material the way they see fit.
