Two different cables. Serial RS232 (DB9) for band data and an RCA Phono input for key input. From: "Steve Shep" <shepsvettes@...>

Hi Steve - there was a customer that asked a similar question, the answer from one of the engineers might help you or others so I'm posting it here:? ?
ALC is NOT required and should ONLY be used on SSB. It’s kind of a leftover from when transceivers had poor output power regulation. ? Most modern rigs need only -1.5V ?to -3V for ALC voltage to start reducing their power output. ? ALC setting is highly dependent on which transceiver is being used. Setup is a simple two-step process. ? I suggest, as outlined in the LA-1K owner’s manual FIRST to set drive level (with ALC set for minimum or disconnected on LA-1K). Drive would be set on CW for desired output (Example 800W) ? After setting for desired output power, ?switch to SSB mode. While speaking in microphone, slowly advance the ALC setting on the LA-1K until PEAK RF power output just slightly drops. This is the desired setting.? Any higher will degrade the transmit quality. ? Alternatively, this may be adjusted by looking for a small INCREASE in the transceiver’s ALC meter reading. ? These settings should be checked or readjusted when switching bands. |
