120/240V switch?

Hi
I am about to switch over to using 240V instead of 120V, however Palstar support advised that I ensure I toggle some switch on the amp to set it to 240v. I can’t for the life of me find this switch or any mention of needing to do that in the manual - anyone able to help??

Thanks

It’s a little slide switch, in a hole on the left side of the cabinet.

No switch... just switch the supplied 240VAC power cable, in place of the 120VAC one.

I've used two different ones on both 120 and 240, neither of them have a switch.?

Mine is less than 1 year old and it has a switch on the side thru a vent slot.

Guess this is like the if you have an older HF Auto you will brick it if you try to update the firmware.?

Both of you guys are right.?

There is no switch on older units (May, 2020 for mine) and just as Jerry said, two power cables came with the amp, one for 240 and one for 120.

No clue when the change was made.

Auto detect power supplies have been used in the medical industry for years. My LA 1K is three years old and has the automatic switching power supply I guess someone can call Palstar and tell you what serial numbers have the power supply that incorporates the switch.?
I would suspect they ran out of stock, and had to use another ?power supply.

Like Barry said. Maybe the original PS ran out of stock.

So i think Palstar should ? alert of this change with sirens and lights because errors can be made due to extensive literature ?regarding auto switching PS. Imho.

73, loving this amp.

Mine is now about 4 years old and came with both 120 and 240 Vac power cords (no switch).
By the way, supplying BOTH cords is a very nice feature - THANKS, Palstar!!

By comparison, the Mercury IIIs amp was shipped without either power cord.? It required several hours of careful internet / amazon searching to find the correct ones from a current / temperature / outlet / plug application standpoint.? For those who might be skeptical - there are many possible choices (permutations) and it's quite easy to find an incorrect cord.

I can assure you it is best to look for the switch!? I got one of the first to roll out with the new power supply. I had read the manual front to back several times while I awaited delivery.? When it camw in I tossed all the paperwork aside and proceeded to set it up.? The day I got it I did not have my 240V run in.? Powered it up on 120v and all was well. The next day I completed my 240v install, switched cords and powered up.? There was a loud boom and smoke.Needless to say my amp was on its way back for "not covered" repair.

I have the auto switch power supply , but I would guess Palstar should probably placard the power cord and the side of the amplifier to prevent this kind of failure.?

Barry??

I think I purchased my LA-1K in December.? It has the red switch on the on the left side, inside the hole in the case.? I toggled my switch numerous times to get the feel of it.? I have left it on 120 volt because that is where I intend to use it.

Steve,

When was your LA-1K delivered to you brand new?

My LA-1K, purchased brand new directly from Palstar, was delivered to me on January 21, 2023.? My current home station configuration with the LA-1K (Serial Number: 38935) can be seen on my QRZ page at

Started out powering the LA-1K using my home wall outlet (just under 125VAC according to my Craftsman DVM) at proper power supply switch position same day I took possession of the thing.? After seeing some error messages (power supply related) on the LA-1K display, I consulted with Mark Ward (Palstar tech support) about them first thing the following week.? Mr. Ward advised me to ignore the power supply information in whole, as printed on Page 15 of the technical manual (hard copy) that came with my LA-1K shipment, since Palstar failed to update their LA-1K technical manual.

So, having "read the manual front to back several times" as you did.. could have complicated your power supply issues since the manual in question is outdated, Steve!

Bottom line:? Buyers beware!!!

I received my amp from Palstar in Sept 2022 and it had a rather large warning flyer in the bag with the power cords (attached).? I didn't miss it and I run the amp from a 240V dedicated circuit.

Folks, It pays to read the entire thread …

1) in sumary, some units have a switch on the left side of the unit. This must be switched accordingly to whatever voltage you intend on running. And you must use the appropriate cord to fit your wall socket/power receptacle. If you neglect to do this and power up with the switch in the wrong setting, YOU WILL BE SORRY.

2) Some units DO NOT have said switch ( like mine )
And all that is required is to change the power cords.? No taps to change on the PS.
