Hi, I have just downloaded and installed the above version but I saw a warning that Autorouting was removed in v4.
What is the status of this? I am very keen to use this facility (having got used to having it in DipTrace).
Best regards, Dave

I've installed it by installing "Layout Editor" but I cannot see
any way to run it from the PCB layout tool.
Are you sure support wasn't removed ?

Hi Dave,
I have written a guide + video on how to use the autoroute in KiCad 5.
Please see this:?

Hi Gerard, my pleasure.
Just noting that the same instructions work on KiCad 6 (or current nightly build 5.99).
One change I recommend is the download source for freerouting. Best to use?.
Kind regards,

Hi Peter, Glad to read you.
And fellicitations for your brilliant tutos with very clear and objectives explanations, the way it should be ! I've bought your KiCad book from Elektor e-shop, and most probably will view soon your last video presenting your 'V6 experience' for sure :-!).
Thanks for the info, even if I've already those freerouting jar and source code (got a few years ago when installing the jar and the java sdk on different PCs and different OS Ubuntu and WIN10 for my part). Done for my personnal leisure-time projects (not to say 'home-works', as if I feel going back to school but with different interesting tools to have...).
Presently I'm working with the V5.1.8. (preferably to experiment V5.99 or awaiting the official stable V6, rather than moving to the intermediate 5.1.10...).
- Where to get and install under WIN10 the pre-V6 (so-called 'nightly V5.99')
?
- Where to load the project source code, and regenerate locally a 'V5.99 exe' ? - Have you generated it or just using a V5.99 exe one, previously downloaded from somewhere ?
Best Regards from France ! GerardFX

The link mentionned on Github has an active project, and is still active.
'freerouting still living' and doing quite a good job for free.

At last I have some time to look at the video for this - looks
relatively easy :-) It certainly worked well for a simple board
design I have.? It will be interesting to see how it goes with a
more complex/crowded design.
The video I found very good and gave me the confidence to try
again.
Regards,
Dave

Hi David, Don't hesitate to try KiCad !
I've done it a few years ago for fun, and very happy to use this free-tool, which does the job for most designs (such as Makers or Hobbyists could have, and able to work like a pro when time has come...).
KiCad is easy to learn. Forget (for a while) the other ones (not trying to compare them)... It's simply different and simple to use !
I did some different designs with it (and easily manufacturing those FR4 PCB Standard Pool by from Europe).
From easy to complex ones (up to 8 layers
double-europe extended format, double-sided populated, thousands parts and nets to
route and with no bad surprises coming from the tool itself, and by securing the project files regurlarly as usual).
I've never used DipTrace (but having understood somewhere Freerouting is used for auto-routing by some users... right ?),
With always same effort to redraw schema when migrating to another tool when needed (Have you found some different answer in KiCad forum...).
