Sounds like the graphics memory has got confused.

Have you tried a redraw?

View -> redraw (or F3)

Switching the canvas may also clear this.

On my system (Linux) the canvas options are at the bottom of the view
menu

F3 didn't work but I tried flip board view as I didn't see switch canvas and that worked.
