Hello Where can I find one or more component libraries for Kicad in which I will have 3D resistors with value rings?

And also a 555 circuit with the manufacturer's reference and logo?

Thanks for your help

Re: PCB 3D

Hi
1. You need place text on PCB first (silkscreen, for example)
2. You need to use appropriate 3D models for components (555 marking, resistor coding rings)
3. You need route traces on PCB to have them on 3D

Hello This time it works.

What is the method to write text on the 3D PCB?

On the 555 IC?

How to add colored circles to resistors?

I also still have to trace the tracks But that should not be a problem.

Thanks for your help

Stanislas

Re: 3D

Hello.

Try the attached footprint.

Place it into a folder created by you and configure the relative directory in kicad.

Dragging differential pairs, push and shove

I am using KiCad 6.? I can't drag diff pairs as a pair.? Have seen this done in a YouTube video by Tom W.? Also effects length tuning; meanders will not form if there's no room.

Hello, My son is drawing the Step file while I'm writing to you.

I'll send it to you as soon as it'll be finished.

?On the other hand, I'd really appreciate if you draw the footprint.

I'll take care of the association footprint<>stepfile.

Re: Can't move silkscreen markings and uploading to this group

Hi John,

I agree the selection system in KiCAD6 is a bit long-winded. Everyone has their preference, and usually the one they got used to with a previous package.

My 'previous package' was Multisim/ultiboard which allowed clever mulitple editing. Selecting multiple parts then 'properties' (E in KiCAD) would allow editing of all relevant common properties. Something I miss, but I don't miss the cost, windows only, and apalling library of multisim/ultiboard. National Instruments are clearly milking it under the Design Studio name, but we are drifting off topic.

You have a few small errors:
You need to place No Connection flags to pins 4, 5, and 7 to tell KiCad you intended for those pins to be left unconnected.
You need to move some wires (from J3 and to pin 6) back to the grid. Select all (Ctrl-A) and then right-click and choose Align Elements to Grid will fix all grid issues. Pin 6 wasn't connected even though it was close.
You need to add power flag symbols to the power and GND lines from J2 and J3 so KiCad knows where power is sourced. Because the wire from J3 was off grid a Power Flag placed here didn't connect to the wire.
The power flag symbol is in the standard library and it is called PWR_FLAG. You can search for it by name in the Add a Symbol dialog.

I have attached a revised version of your schematic. It passes the ERC checks.

Re: Can't move silkscreen markings and uploading to this group

They have radically changed how editing occurs in that items must be "in scope" in order to edit them. You can edit front silkscreen items by first clicking on the f.silkscreen layer to make it "in scope". This procedure also applies when editing the f.cu, b.cu and f.zip as well.??

There are plusses and minuses to this new feature. Okn the plus side, one doesn't inadvertently edit an item because you just select the layer to be edited first. The downside is that it drastically adds key clicks and thus slows the editing process.?

Make sense?

Hi All,

I have a small design which has hit a problem. With KiCAD 6.07 I can't move silkscreen layer text in the PCB editor. Never encountered this before, and loading up other boards does allow me to move the text. It's small so I could start again. Not tried earlier KiCADs but did try the Mac OS/PC windows versions and still the same.

2 questions -
Anyone know anything that can cause just the silkscreen to lock? I can move parts.
It would be nice to upload the files (40k) to this group so anyone can look, but is that still possible?

Thanks,
Rob.

You have to connect a component called PWR_FLAG to your VCC and GND to let Kicad know that this is a power input (which it then can use to verifiy that such nets are connected to pins that are configured to be a power input). As a quick hack you can just add it to the leads of the chip in this case (attached your modified schematic)

But typically you do that at where you input the power, like a connector of sorts: there where your power is coming in, you connect that to VCC and GND and also add the power flags (and it is also a good reminder for you, that you don't have a way to connect power to your circuit in its current state :) ).
(there are probably some tutorials on the 'net to explain in more detail the PWR_FLAG)

Cheers,
? Henner.
