Re: Ground strap
Hi Andy Thank you, will try in morning. Let you know how I get on. I'm in Cape town Barry

Re: Ground strap
It's generally a pain to do things without a schematic, especially as it takes so little time to draw up a circuit to keep the system happy. If you want to do so then, turn off all DRC functions and

Re: Ground strap
Hi All, retired 72 young grew up with pCad 5 For dos? Is it possible to manually enter a ratsnest to start a PCB without a schematic? PS kicad by Thanks Barry

Re: Ground strap
Hi Don't reinvent the wheel. There are "net-tie" libraries for Kicad. If you can't find it your installation you can try this one: https://kicad.github.io/footprints/NetTie HIH Best

Re: Ground strap
First, if folks haven't checked docs.kicad.org recently, I recommend doing so. The net tie thing isn't documented there, but many other things that I commonly see people asking about on forums

Re: Ground strap
I understand how hacks/workarounds get implemented. Unfortunatly it is harder for users to find them. Glad to hear that documentation is getting attention. My biggest trouble with a lot of open

Re: KiCad 4.0.7 does not have a release file error
I agree with the VM recommendation. KiCad does an amazingly good job of opening older files, but there can be some discrepancies. Here are screenshots of the gerbers of a design that was originally

Re: Ground strap
At the moment, some of these features are only discoverable by asking how to do a certain thing in a community of other users (or seeing it done on a forum post / video / etc). We definitely need

Re: Ground strap
Thanks. I didn't know about this feature, but I tried it in 6.0.9, and it does work. The other method of a "Common" net class with a zero clearance rule I described in another message also works and

Re: Ground strap
It's always worth checking the Gerbers. Best is if you use a viewer that is unrelated to the layout program you're using.

Thanks, that is exactly what I needed.

Re: Ground strap
So, for someone with zero KiCad experience, how do you learn of: ...adding the keywords "net tie"... There are some subtle features/settings that are hard to pickup. How do you get up to speed with

Re: Ground strap
You haven't stated what problem you actually had, but what I suspect happened is that one of the zones didn't connect to one of the pads of your net-tie "frigged component". This is perfectly

Re: Ground strap
The "net tie" KiCad feature is how you make a footprint that shorts two nets without the DRC complaining. In stable KiCad, you create one by adding the keywords "net tie" at the start of the keywords

Re: Ground strap
Not so much being uncritical as unhelpful!. DRC checks should have picked it up I had about ten different boards for hobby use, double sided, and its just not worth looking at gerber files manually

Re: Ground strap
That's what I had created and it worked before but now it does not.

Re: KiCad 4.0.7 does not have a release file error
Yes, upgrade to 5 then 6, but in m experience they will have issues with symbol libraries because of changes. I would advise keeping an archived virtual machine with the original version 4 for those

Re: Ground strap
Hi A "net-tie" is not a Kicad feature! Its a PCB design feature/technique to be used when one needs to tie 2 nets in a specific point of the board. It's more common and easy to understand usage is

Re: Ground strap
If I understand what you're trying to do correctly, I think all you need is a net tie footprint.
