Hello.

We had the same problem.
The linux version of kicad is completely statical. Thats why its so heavy. We compiled from the sources and
dinamic link it and then it started to work a lot lot lot better.
We have some Debian Sarge i386 (Stable) packages of kicad. The binaries are in one package, the libs in other, the pdfs
in other and the samples in other. All of them sum 54Megs, half the package from internet. Six megs without the PDFs!
You can download the deb packages from

A small introdution

Adilson Oliveira

Good afternoon.

My name is Adilson Oliveira and I'm a software developer for NoMachine
(). Despite I do software for living, I started my
carrer as an eletronics designer and electronics is still a hobby.
I'm also a free software advocate so I always use free software when
possible or, at least, software that can run on Linux.
I found Kicad mostly by accident I must say. I'm a Cadsoft's Eagle user
and one of my designs became too big to use the free version of it. I
don't have anything against pay for my software but Eagle is just too
expensive for something that is just a hobby to me so I started to look
for alternatives and found Kicad.
I must say that my jaw droped :) I didn't have the time yet to really
use it but the software is *very* impressive and free! :)
My congratulations to the developers.

Adilson.

Fill zone angle

Tonamiben

Hi,
I tried to create a zone that I filled with copper.
It work good except when there is 45 deg. angles, where the pour appear
as stair steps.
I was able to modify it in the gerber file by adding a diagonal line but for a big pcb it is a big task
to modify a text file and always refere to the coordinate and I did not tried the concave curve which I don't know how I can do it in the file. Maybe there is an option in Pcbnew to fill the pattern and make smooth edge. I ask this
because for high frequency transmission line (PCB coplanar waveguide)
the calculation of the impedence rely on these gaps between the signal
trace and the ground plane and I don't know the behaviour of such stairs pattern and for the look also.

Is anybody aware about such feature or an easy way to do it?

Thank you

Thanks but no luck seeing the FTP site. I was informed by IT that access is only allowed to approved ftp sites and I doubt if the KICAD site is approved so I guess I'll wait until it gets transferred or I guess I can do it from home.

New kicad release candidate

jean-pierre charras - INPG

开云体育

I have uploaded a new version of kicad, on ftp servers, in Release_Candidate directory..
Because there are many changes, it is a release candidate only.
See (in this directory) "new.txt" and "install.txt"

**
Update 27 sept 2005 (release candidate):
Distribution:
??? Due to the large size of the archives, I have released kicad in 2 separate files:
??? kicad.zip (or.tgz) (all files but schematic component docs :kicad/library/doc/*.pdf)
??? doc_components.zip (or .tgz) (kicad/library/doc/*.pdf)
??? Full install (see install.txt):
??? install kicad.zip (or .tgz).
??? install doc_components.zip (or.tgz) in kicad/library
??? Update:
??? Usually, only kicad.zip is needed.

All:
??? Build with wxWidgets-2.6.2 (Windows) and wxWidgets-2.6.1 (Linux)
??? Italian GUI translation added

eeschema
??? Code cleaning.
??? Change: The 20 mils grid selection is changed to 25 mils grid selection.
??? ??? This is more convenient because the 50 mils standard working grid cannot be reached
??? ??? on a 20 mils grid
??? Added: very usefull block operations in Library Editor:
??? ??? Zoom (Drag mouse, middle button on)
??? ??? move (Drag mouse, left button on) or select items (choose from pop up menu)
??? ??? copy (Drag mouse, left button + shift key on)
??? ??? mirror (Drag mouse, left button + Control key on)
??? ??? delete (Drag mouse, left button + shiht key + control key on)
??? ??? Select (accessible by block popup menu): select items (pins) for selective global editing

??? Some others enhancements.

??? Added in Library editor only: True undo-redo command

??? Added:
??? ??? - New hot key: F5 = Find next
??? ??? - Now, pin names can be partially overlined:
??? ??? ??? Only letters between ~ are overlined.
??? ??? ??? for a string like READ/WRITE, if you want have WRITE overlined
??? ??? ??? enter the string READ/~WRITE~

pcbnew:
??? fixed bugs:
??? ??? - pcbnew can crashes in autoplace command
??? ??? - pcbnew now saves module option "locked".
??? ??? - Plot: cotas are now correctly plotted

I made this script to generate arrays of many pins. I used for a wirewrap prototyping area and for some connectors.
It would be greate if someone adds it the generation of the 3D object!

Component Pins

It would be nice to get rid of the bubbles at the end of the pins in
the component symbol(schematic), once the connection has been made.
The bubbles will then serve as an indication of an unconnected pin.

This will also make the schematic diagram look uncluttered and
professional.

Thanks,
--Royce.
